The Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh has awarded the a $3,000 grant.
The funding will be used to purchase science equipment for the district's fifth-graders, who in the fall will from the district's elementary to middle school building.
The group also awarded the middle school a $600 grant to purchase supplies.
According to a statement from the district:
"Although we currently use many labs in fifth grade, next year we will actually have real classrooms set up for labs," said fifth-grade teacher Elaine Mitchell. "Therefore we have implemented more lab sessions into our curriculum."
The school district will conduct an informational meeting for parents April 25 about curriculum changes for middle school students next fall. Check back with Patch for coverage.
