Moon Supervisors Look to Fill Board Vacancy; Introduce Planning Director

The board also approved a bond reduction for a new township business.

The last night took an initial vote on candidates eligible to fill the vacant position on the board created by the departure of Tim McLaughlin.

Township Manager Jeanne Creese said five residents submitted letters of interest in the position: Allan Bross of Hassam Road; John Hertzer of Beacon Hill Road; William Napierski of Cimarron Road; Edwin Nelson of Beacon Hill Road; and Nancy Patton Mills of Coraopolis Heights Road.

The board will vote on the applications of Patton Mills, Nelson and Bross at its monthly regular meeting Sept. 7.

The board did not approve applications for Hertzer and Napierski, citing that both residents are seeking six-year terms on the board in November's municipal election. 

The candidate chosen will serve on the board for the three months remaining in McLaughlin's term.

The board announced at its Aug. 4 meeting. 

Other items of interest from the meeting: 

  • The board approved a bond reduction for in the amount of $88,200. The University Boulevard business opened last month. 
  • The board discussed community feedback regarding the soon-to-be constructed Walmart on University Boulevard. Creese said members of the have expressed concern that the new retail facility and traffic signaling would cause congestion on Carnot Road. The company has not yet obtained a highway occupancy permit from PennDOT
  • New township planning director Thomas J. Connelly attended the meeting. Connelly was by the township Aug. 4 and began work earlier this week. He replaces former planning director Adam McGurk.
