Three Moon Men Charged in Copper Thefts from Middle School

Police say the men tried to flee with copper from the Moon Area Middle School construction site.

said three men early this morning broke into the l construction site and attempted to flee with copper piping and construction materials.  

Police charged , 25; Antonio Francis Corso, 22; and Christopher Wayne Weaver, 19; each of Moon Township, in the incident after officers recovered the stolen materials in the men's vehicles. The men were arraigned at Night Court following their arrests. 

Police received a call shortly after 4 a.m. today from a witness who reported that a burglary was taking place at the middle school construction site. The witness said a white Chevrolet Pontiac and a red Chevrolet Cavalier were involved.

Police spotted the cars moments later near the intersection of Thorn Run and Beaver Grade roads and stopped them at the Thorn Run Crossings plaza. Police said they recovered copper piping, bolt cutters and saw blades in the vehicles as well as a large cardboard box filled with copper piping in the back seat of the Pontiac, driven by Corso. The address of the middle school was written on the box. 

Police said they also recovered several small bags of marijuana as well as burnt marijuana and a pipe in the vehicles. Officers did not estimate the value of the stolen materials.

Police said thieves have targeted the construction site before. The building, which formerly served as the district's high school, is undergoing an extensive renovation to open as the district's middle school at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year. 

Vaughn is charged with burglary, conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of instruments of crime, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Corso is charged with burglary, conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property, possession of instruments of crime, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Weaver is charged with conspiracy, theft, receiving stolen property and possession of instruments of crime. 

Each will appear Feb. 14 in Coraopolis District Court for a preliminary hearing.
