Missing Alzheimer's Patient Found Near Moon Area Middle School

Police said the man was not hurt after wandering from his home.

An 84-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease was found wandering near the Moon Area Middle School today after an hours-long search for his whereabouts.

The man was located with the help of the township's SwiftReach alert system

Moon Police Captain Greg Seamon said the man, who resides on McCaffrey Drive, was reported missing by his wife at noon. The woman told police she last saw her husband at about 11:15 a.m.

Moon police, aided by the Allegheny County Sheriff's search and rescue dog as well as state and county police, searched the township for the man throughout much of the afternoon.

A Moon resident alerted authorities at about 2 p.m. when he saw an elderly man walking near the Moon Area Middle School on Beaver Grade Road.

"A neighbor who had received the (SwiftReach) message saw him walking toward the school, and contacted us" Seamon said.

Seamon said the man is in good condition and was taken to Sewickley Valley Hospital to be examined.
