Update: Moon Carjacking Suspect Arrested, Jailed in West Virginia

The details about the string of assaults on Brodhead Road emerge.

Police in West Virginia have arrested and jailed a suspect in two aggravated assaults and a carjacking early Saturday near the intersection of Brodhead and Purdy roads.

Joseph Manna, 27, of McKees Rocks, was booked and jailed without bond this morning in West Virginia's North Central Regional Jail.  Police in Monongalia County arrested him, but additional details were not immediately available on how they found him in the Morgantown area.

Manna is charged with two counts each of receiving stolen property, aggravated assault and reckless driving, three counts of reckless endangerment, and one count each of robbery and criminal mischief.  Those charges stem from the incident Saturday in which said two people were assaulted and a blue 2005 BMW Mini Cooper was taken from the residential area around 6:30 a.m. Saturday. No one was injured in the assaults.

Stowe Police said at 5 a.m. Saturday,  Manna broke into a Broadway Avenue apartment in Stowe Township, stabbed two residents of the home and stole a black Ford F-150 truck.

At 6:30 a.m., Moon police received a call from a woman reporting that a male in a black pick-up truck had rear-ended her vehicle.  She said the truck had been tailgating her down Spring Run Road, when he pulled his vehicle next to hers as she drove past the 1300 block of the street. When she slowed her vehicle, the driver put the truck in reverse and backed into her car. The woman was able to drive her car away from the scene of the crash.

Police said Manna pulled his vehicle into the parking lot of Brodhead Chiropractic Center, where he approached a woman from his vehicle and asked her for directions to the Pittsburgh International Airport. He also told the woman that his hand was injured and asked if she had a rag in her vehicle and a cigarette.

She handed him a rag from the floor of her red Chevy Impala and attempted to drive away. Manna followed her eastbound on Brodhead Road and rear-ended her vehicle several times, causing her to crash into a utility pole before he drove away.

Police said Manna then approached a third woman while his vehicle was pulled over at the intersection of Brodhead and Purdy roads. The woman, who was driving to work in her Mini Cooper, pulled down her window, and Manna asked if he could use her cell phone.

As the woman dialed the number for him, Manna got out of the truck, opened the Mini Cooper's door and forced the woman from the vehicle, grabbing her coat and shouting "Get out." Once in the vehicle, he performed a u-turn on Purdy Road and drove eastbound toward Beaver County on Brodhead Road. The woman's purse and several credit cards were in the vehicle.

Police said several hours later Manna attempted to use one of the credit cards at a Shop-n-Save in Washington, but was declined.  Moon Police used surveillance camera footage from the grocery store to identify Manna.
