Officials to Address Closing of 911th Airlift Wing

Local lawmakers and members of a military coalition will conduct a news conference tomorrow to address efforts to prevent the closure.

The Military Affairs Coalition of Western Pennsylvania and Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, will conduct a news conference at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh address the closure of Moon’s 911th Airlift Wing.

Officials will update the public on the closure of the wing and the downsizing of the neighboring 171st Refueling Wing. The group will also detail its plans to prevent the closure, according to a statement.

The Air Force announced it will shutter the 911th air reserve wing as a part of an effort to drastically cut federal defense spending. Other military installations, including the 171st, are slated for realignment under the plan.
