Airmen from 171st Refueling Wing Deployed to Libya

More members of a local Pennsylvania Air National Guard unit soon could be deployed.

Local members of the Air National Guard have been deployed to serve in the U.S. military operation in Libya.

Airmen from the 171st Air Refueling Wing of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in Findlay Township are taking part in Operation Odyssey Dawn in Libya.

Air National Guard Capt. Dicie Hritz said she could not confirm the number of airmen from the unit who have been deployed, but said more members could be sent as part of the mission.

Hritz said she was not authorized to release the date that the airmen were deployed. It is unclear how long they will remain on duty in the Libyan operation.

"We're always ready to deploy when we're called," Hritz said. "That's our job -- to be ready and to be prepared."
