Five Things You Need to Know This Week

A rundown of the week's soon-to-be big stories and upcoming events.

1. School Board meeting scheduled for tonight

The Moon Area School Board will meet at 6 p.m. today in the high school meeting room. The board is slated to vote on a revised calendar for the remainder of the school year and several student trips.

2. Township Board of Supervisors hold workshop meeting

The will hold its monthly workshop meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the township Municipal Building. The meeting will be preceded by a on an upcoming bridge replacement on Brodhead Road at 5 p.m., also in the township municipal building.

3.  Drug Take-Back Day Comes to Moon

will take part in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency-sponsored initiative will provide residents the chance to drop off old and unused prescription medications for proper disposal through the police department. 

The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the township public safety building. Check back with Patch later this week for more information. 

4. Middle School principal to meet with parents

Principal Melissa Heasley will meet with parents at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Bon Meade Elementary to discuss fifth-graders moving into the middle school. 

Fifth-graders in the district, who currently attend class in the district's elementary schools, will move to the Moon Area Middle School in Fall 2012. 

5. Moon-area sports take place all week

The spring sports season is in full swing. Baseball, softball and volleyball games are scheduled to take place throughout the week. Check out a schedule here.
