Tight Knit: Moon-Area Group Bonds Over Needlework, Conversation

Knitting intertwines a group of friends who meet each week at the Moon Township Public Library.

It's a Thursday afternoon in Moon—a group of women gather around a table, a few dozen spools of yarn, knitting needles and almost-stitched projects in tow.

Those in attendance eye a maroon-knit cap—how could you finish it, just-so, to resemble the photograph example?

"I've never met a knitter I didn't like," said one member of the group.

The Moon-are knitting club is a weekly staple at the township's public library. Knitters from surrounding communities come together each Thursday afternoon, and membership is decidedly inclusive: All you need is a spool of yarn.

"We definitely talk about more than just knitting," said Suzanne Rabosky. "You can come in and chat, and get help with whatever your working on."

Knitters off all experience levels are welcome in the group—projects on this day range from a green-hued Yoda hat, complete with pointed ears, to a cap meant for a newborn.

"If you're just getting started, you can come in here and we'll help," said Peggy West, who said she has been knitting for 40 years. "If you have a question, there's someone in here who's knitted something like it before."

Input is welcome and the conversations flow as each knitter works away at their projects.

"When you knit, you'll have the best support group," said club member Marylan Petruska.
