Runners Gear Up for Moon 5K

Proceeds from the annual community run benefit Moon Parks.

More than 200 runners are expected to take to Moon Township streets Saturday for the community's annual 5K run.

Runners and walkers from around the region will take part in the event, which raises money for Moon Parks Department projects.

Medals will be awarded to the top runners in individual age brackets, said Moon Parks Director Dana Kasler.

Kasler said the event, now in its fourth year, includes people of all ages and skill levels.

"The feedback that we get is that it's a good course," Kasler said. "It's a challenging course, because at the end you're going up Ewing Road."

The course beings on Cherrington Parkway and winds down Coraopolis Road before turning onto Beaver Grade and Ewing Road, ending back on Cherrington, Kasler said.

Cherrington Parkway and portions of Beaver Grade Road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. while the run takes place. Traffic will be one-way on Coraopolis Heights Road.

"It's definitely a community-based fun run, and that's what we hear from people who participate," Kasler said. "It's a great way to support the community.
