Moon Remembers Its Veterans on Eve of Memorial Day

Military veterans hold commemorative ceremonies throughout the day Sunday.

Former Officer Tony Banks played "Taps" on his trumpet about 10 times on Sunday.

“Oh, I do this every year,” said Banks, just before rejoining a procession of military veterans from around the area. “We’re all friends here. This is our day.”

Banks, an Air Force Vietnam War veteran, spent Sunday afternoon observing Memorial Day with 40 other veterans from the Moon and Corapolis area. The group, organized by Coraopolis VFW Post 402, stopped by local cemeteries and the Moon Municipal Building, performing a solemn ceremony of remembrance at each location.
