Community Comes Together for Moon's Independence Day Fete

The annual township celebration featured country music and Zambelli fireworks.

Crowds lined the hillside in front of Moon Park's ampitheater to hear country music crooners and catch a glimpse of Zambelli fireworks in the skies overhead.

Headlined by chart-topper Thomas Rhett alongside Moon native Sarah Marince, the event drew more than 15,000 from across the region, said Moon Parks director Dana Kasler.

The township first hosted its July 4 festival in 1968, making the event among the longest running Independence Day celebrations in Western Pennsylvania.

"Not only do we have the parks department help out with this, but we have so many volunteers who come to help out, the police department is here, it's truly a community day," Kasler said. "Everybody comes and helps out."
