Patch Poll: Which Race Has the Most Annoying or Negative Campaign Ads?

The good news is that ads will end after Tuesday. The bad news is Election Day is still two days away.

As we head into the last few days before the election, the campaign ads seem never ending. But do they influence voters or turn them off? Some people hang on to those ads which agree with their viewpoint but others just seem to be grating if you don't have a similar viewpoint. Many seem to be negative ads against the opponent rather than ones that point out the attributes of the candidate. So, you tell us. Take our poll and if there's a specific commercial that you want to point out, tell us in the comments section.

Project to cost $10.5 million and will create a center with 300 Navy personnel assigned there, according to Rep. Tim Murphy.

Military and elected officials will break ground at 10 a.m. Saturday on a $10.5 million Navy Operational Support Center on the grounds of Moon Township's 911th Air Reserve Station.  The center will include space for administration, recruiting, instruction, a drill hall, exercise and fitness, and medical examinations.  It is scheduled to open in February 2014, according to U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St.Clair and will replace the current NOSC facility in North Versailles. Murphy said about 300 Navy personnel will be assigned to the base once it is completed. "We are very excited to have this in our region," he told Patch in a telephone interview. "It is a huge benefit to our region for multiple reasons. It provides easy access to training…

Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair.  Murphy and Vice Admiral Robin Braun, Chief of the Navy Reserve and Commander of the Navy Reserve Force, will be on hand at 10 a.m. Saturday at the airlift wing for the ground-breaking ceremony and reception.  The new Naval facility will replace an existing one in North Versailles. Wagner to Audit Moon Township's 911th Airlift Wing

Rep. Tim Murphy and Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner call for the Air Force to be more transparent in potential closure of Moon Township air base.

Pennsylvania Auditor General Jack Wagner hopes to audit the 911th Airlift Wing in an effort to save the Moon Township base from a potential closure in the coming years.  Wagner and Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, will spearhead an audit of the 911th and present its findings to Air Force officials to stave off another closure attempt, the pair announced on Wednesday.  The two sent a joint letter to U.S. Defense Department Secretary Leon Panetta and Air Force Secretary Michael Donley, outlining the air wing's efficiencies and requesting additional data used in the Air Force's decision earlier this year to close the base.  The Air Force planned to shut down the 911th this year as a cost-cutting measure, eliminating each of its more than…

Officials Break Ground on Moon Military Commissary

Construction will soon be under way on a University Boulevard military commissary, marking the end of a six-year battle to bring the facility to Moon.

Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton, said it was a testament to perseverance.  Members of Pennsylvania's Congressional delegation and military officials from across the region earlier today attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the long-awaited Moon Township military commissary.  The 43,000 square-foot facility, set to open in the fall of 2013, will house a grocery story for more than 170,000 military members and their families in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.  The regional hub will be located at the corner of University Boulevard and the Interstate 376 Business Route in Moon and will more than double the size of Oakdale's Charles E. Kelly Commissary, which is slated to close.  The effort to bring the new commissary to Moon has been in…

Congressional Candidate Launches 'Let Larry Vote' Petition Drive

Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi says he may not be able to vote because of the new Voter ID law.

Washington County Commissioner Larry Maggi—a candidate for Congress—said he may not be able to vote this November because of Pennsylvania’s new voter ID law.  Maggi’s name was released by the Department of State as having a different name on his voter registration than he does on his driver’s license.  His voter registration is listed as “Larry Maggi” while his driver’s license reads “Lawrence Owen Maggi.”  Maggi will vie against GOP incumbent Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, for the 18th Congressional District, which includes Moon Township and parts of Robinson.  To raise awareness of how unprepared the state is to implement this law less than 90 days from today, Maggi created www.letlarryvote.com to encourage others to sign his …

Mikeyiscool I have to agree with you there it is a ploy to get votes. People are give a full name at Birth and that is what they are suppose to use on all legal papers, not nicknames. If he was stupid enough to register his voters ID under Larry not Lawrence it is his own stupid fault, no one else is. Same with everyone else, Democrat or Republican, you were given a Legal Name for that purpose.   more ›

Unofficial Results Show Murphy Wins Congressional Race

Incumbent Tim Murphy beat Peters Township native Evan Feinberg in the race for 18th District.

Five-time Republican incumbent Tim Murphy is on his way to a sixth term as representative of the 18th Congressional District. Murphy won a place on the ballot over challenger Peters Township native Evan Feinberg. Murphy will face Democratic Washington County Comissioner Larry Maggi in the November general election.  “We have so many good people here, I want to thank everybody,” Murphy said to supporters at the Clarion Hotel in Green Tree. “What an army of people we had out there who were working hard all the time. It’s time for me to be grateful and thank all of you.” The November election will focus on representing the people of the district and letting them know they have a voice with him, Murphy said. “It’s not about any county or any …

News Nearby: Evan Feinberg Answers Your Questions

The Peters Township native will face five-term incumbent Rep. Tim Murphy in the April 24 primary.

A Peters Township High School graduate will face 10-year incumbent Rep. Tim Murphy in the Pennsylvania spring primary on April 24.  Although it's his first campaign, he's not new to politics. Evan Feinberg, 28, of Upper St. Clair, moved to Washington D.C. after college to work with the Heritage Foundation. He served as Sen. Tom Coburn's (R-OK) legislative assistant for Health Policy and, in 2010, took the position of top policy aide in Sen. Rand Paul's (R-KY) office. He will challenge Congressman Murphy to represent the 18th District of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives. Feinberg took some time to answer to questions we thought were important to readers pre-election. Patch: What makes you more qualified than 10-year …

Lawmakers, Supporters Insist 'Fight Not Over' to Save the 911th Airlift Wing

Congressional officials ask President Obama to intervene and block the closing of the Moon-based installation.

Lawmakers and local military supporters said efforts to save the Moon-based 911th Airlift Wing are not over, despite an Air Force announcement earlier this week that the base will close in 2013.  Members of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation in a letter have asked President Barack Obama to intervene and block the closing of the base, which would result in the loss of 1,122 military and 281 civilian jobs.  Officials called the planned closure a "devastating mistake for the military, the taxpayers and the Pittsburgh region," in their letter to the president.  The Pentagon plans to cut $8.7 billion from the Air Force's 2013 budget. The 911th is targeted for closure because of the age of its eight C-130 tactical aircraft, which were …
