Former Cops Sentenced in Connection to Moon Prostitution Sting

Talib Ghafoor, 56, and Faquar Holland, 39, today appeared in Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.

Two former Pittsburgh Police detectives entered pleas today in connection to a 2011 prostitution sting at a Moon hotel.   District Attorney spokesman Michael Manko said Faquar Holland, 39, of Charleroi, pleaded guilty to one count of promoting prostitution. His former partner Talib Kevin Ghafoor, 56, pleaded no contest to one count of participating in corrupt activities.  Holland was sentenced to one-year probation. Trials Delayed for Former Police Officers Charged with Prostitution

Talib Kevin Ghafoor and Faquar Holland will appear in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas

The non-jury trials of two former Pittsburgh Police detectives charged with operating a prostitution ring have been postponed until April.  Talib Kevin Ghafoor, 56, and Faquar Holland, 39, will appear before Common Pleas Judge Donna Jo McDaniel April 30 for non-jury trials.  Ghafoor, who resigned from the Pittsburgh Police department in 2008 after a 20-year career, is charged with promoting prostitution, conspiracy and corrupt organizations in connection to a Moon-area prostitution ring, according to court records. Moon Police first arrested him in March 2011 after police said he drove his fiance to a township hotel to have sex with an undercover detective in exchange for money.  Holland, who was Ghafoor's partner in the Pittsburgh Police …

Ex-Detective to Face Jury Trial on Prostitution Charges

A former Pittsburgh narcotics detective will face a jury trial on charges that he operated a Moon prostitution ring. Talib Kevin Ghafoor, 55, of East Liberty, today waived his right to a preliminary hearing in Coraopolis District Court. Moon Police charged him in June with organizing the ring and purchasing online advertisements for prostitutes. Ghafoor's defense attorney, Frank Walker, said his client decided to waive the hearing after negotiations with the prosecution.  "It was in the best interest of my client," Walker said. "We are looking forward to appearing before a jury."  Ghafoor declined to comment, but he stood alongside Walker as the attorney addressed media representatives after the hearing. Ex-Detective Waives Prostitution Hearing

A second former Pittsburgh narcotics detective charged by Moon Police with orchestrating a prostitution ring waived his right to a preliminary hearing today. Faquar "Terry" Holland, 38, of Charleroi, appeared briefly in Coraopolis District Court this afternoon without an attorney. His formal arraignment is scheduled for July 12 in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. Holland declined to comment while leaving court this afternoon.  Holland, who resigned from the Pittsburgh Police department in 2007, has been charged alongside his former police partner, 55-year-old Talib Kevin Ghafoor, with organizing a prostitution ring and purchasing online prostitution ads.
