Tight Knit: Moon-Area Group Bonds Over Needlework, Conversation

Knitting intertwines a group of friends who meet each week at the Moon Township Public Library.

It's a Thursday afternoon in Moon—a group of women gather around a table, a few dozen spools of yarn, knitting needles and almost-stitched projects in tow.  Those in attendance eye a maroon-knit cap—how could you finish it, just-so, to resemble the photograph example? "I've never met a knitter I didn't like," said one member of the group.  The Moon-are knitting club is a weekly staple at the township's public library. Knitters from surrounding communities come together each Thursday afternoon, and membership is decidedly inclusive: All you need is a spool of yarn.  "We definitely talk about more than just knitting," said Suzanne Rabosky. "You can come in and chat, and get help with whatever your working on."  Knitters off all experience …

Mooncrest Community Center Hosts Dinner Fundraiser

The center regularly holds the fundraisers to raise money for arts education, field trips.

Sister Rene Procopio said the scene is enough to warm her heart. Procopio, director of the Mooncrest Community Center, gathered alongside parishioners from Moon's St. Margaret Mary parish and residents of the Mooncrest neighborhood Monday night for the center's regular dinner fundraiser at Hoss's Steak and Seahouse.  "It's just overwhelming to see all these people here," said Procopio of the event. "And St. Margaret Mary has just been great."  Every other month the center hosts the dinner at the Beaver Grade Road eatery, raising between $400 and $600 for the center's arts programs per dinner. For the community center, which funds its programming through grants and philanthropy, every dollar counts, Procopio said.  Hoss's donates a portion …
