'Iron Chef' Winner to Cook at Settlers Ridge

Chef and Food Network personality Alexandra Guarnashchelli will take part in a cooking demonstration in Robinson Township. Tickets are now available.

Chef Alexandra Guarnashchelli will make a guest appearance the Robinson Township Market District Giant Eagle.  Guarnashchelli is the season five winner of the popular cooking competition show The Next Iron Chef. She also serves as a judge on the Food Network series Chopped and has appeared on Good Morning America and the CBS Morning Show.  She now serves as the executive chef of eateries The Darby and Butter, located in New York City.  Guarnaschelli will appear at 11 a.m. May 18 at the Robinson Township Market District location for a cooking demonstration. The appearance is free to attendd, but tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Find more information on attending on the Market District's website.

The gourmet sandwich shop opens its doors at Settlers Ridge.

  Sandwich restaurant Jimmy John's has opened for business at the Settlers Ridge shopping center in Robinson Township.  The fast food sandwich shop, which offers both eat-in dining and delivery, opened on March 20 at 1935 Settlers Ridge Drive, near the new Massage Envy location, staff members said.  The national franchise offers up a menu of subs and sandwiches.    ___ Like Robinson-Moon Patch on Facebook

Plow & Hearth Comes to Settlers Ridge in Robinson

The furniture store opens in the Settlers Ridge Ridge shopping complex

The Virginia-based home furnishings store Plow & Hearth will hold its grand opening this week at Settlers Ridge in Robinson Township.  The national retailer, which specializes in furniture, fireplace rugs and accessories, and lawn and garden ornaments, will host a three-day grand opening event beginning Nov. 15 at its new Settlers Ridge location, according to the store's website. Plow & Hearth introduced the new store with a "soft opening" on Oct. 26.  The 5,000 square-foot shopping space is located at 1710 Settlers Ridge Drive. Barnes & Noble: Credit Card Data Jeopardized at Robinson Store

The popular bookseller chain calls the incident a "sophisticated criminal effort to steal credit card information."

Barnes & Noble detected credit card tampering in its Robinson Township store, according to a company news release.  The national book retailer found evidence of tampering with devices used to process debit and credit card transactions at 63 of its stores across the country, including its location in the Settlers Ridge shopping complex.  The tampering was an effort to steal credit and debit card information from customers.  As a result of the tampering, Barnes & Noble discontinued use of more than 700 PIN pads in its stores. 'Taste of History' Chef to Demonstrate Gourmet Recipes at Market District

Chef Walter Staib will cook and serve samples of his recipes.

The Emmy-winning host of A Taste of History cooking show will take over the Robinson Township Market District demo kitchen Saturday to show consumers easy gourmet recipes to make in a hurry. Chef Walter Staib of Philadelphia will be at the 100 Settlers Ridge Center Drive store from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. He will also appear at Pine Township's Market District from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.  Guests will get to taste the world-renowned chef’s recipes and meet with him for personal question-and-answer periods. Update: Swimmer Nearly Drowns at Settlers Cabin Wave Pool

A swimmer at the Settlers Cabin Wave Pool nearly drowned Sunday afternoon, but was resuscitated by rescuers.

A man who nearly drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming at the Settlers Cabin Park Wave Pool is in critical condition, but expected to survive. Lifeguards pulled the man in his early 20s from the water around 2 p.m. and performed CPR on him before he was taken by ambulance to a Pittsburgh area hospital, according to the media reports. His name, age and condition were not known Monday morning. The pool, which is at Settlers Cabin Park in Robinson Township, was evacuated for several hours while Allegheny County police investigating, WTAE-TV reported on its website. Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said the victim is in critical condition, but expected to recover. He was conscious Monday morning and Allegheny County police …

Columnist Gab Bonesso has stumbled upon a new area restaurant with New York flavor.

Former Miami Dolphins quarterback and Pittsburgh native Dan Marino may never have won a Super Bowl, but he has certainly won the heart of this columnist.   His new restaurant, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, located in Settler’s Ridge in Robinson Township, totally exceeded expectations.  The other day I ran into my godmother, who could not stop raving about the pizza and wings from Anthony’s. She informed us that Marino was the owner.  Frankly, I groaned. I thought the last thing we needed in this area is another pizza and wing joint. Plus, we already have Ditka’s. How many former professional athlete restaurants with Western Pennsylvania roots do we need in one community? What’s next? The Joe Namath Pancake House?  My godmother saw my eyes …
