Champs Sports Network will sponsor the display following the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Sto-Rox high school baseball game.
Champs Sports Network will sponsor a post-game fireworks show Friday at the Youthtowne sports complex in Clinton, following the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Sto-Rox baseball game. While there is no way to be sure, the show is said to be the first of its kind for WPIAL high school baseball. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic high school in Moon Township. "We are excited, the kids are excited, it should be a great event and something that goes well beyond the norm for a high school baseball game," Champs President Matt Farago said. The Chargers (11-2), ranked No.1 in Champs "Class-A" power rankings since the start of the season, could be going for a perfect section record against a struggling Sto-Rox squad. The first pitch is set…

The ad, which will air for the month of March on WTAE, is the Moon Township parochial school's first television spot in more than a decade. "We haven't advertised on television since the late 1990s, so this isn't the first (television advertisement) but it's the first in a while," said OLSH spokeswoman Jessica Cerchiaro. The advertisement, featuring shots of OLSH students and faculty members at the school's Woodcrest Avenue facility, is a part of a larger campaign for Pittsburgh's Catholic Schools Network. The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh entered into an agreement this year with Pittsburgh's ABC affiliate WTAE, enabling area schools in the diocese …

After 50 years in the classroom, a Moon Township educator said he has no plans of slowing down.
It was 1962 when John Mihaloew first stepped into the classroom as an educator. In November—50 years after his career in education began—students and faculty at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart celebrated the long-time educator's 80th birthday. "Overnight they decorated my room with all kinds of balloons," Mihaloew said of the celebration."It was kind of fun. I got a little chuckle out of that." After five decades in front of a classroom, Mihaloew said he has no plans of slowing down. He first joined the faculty at OLSH in 1978, after beginning his career teaching at the University of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh city schools. He's taught thousands of students during his tenure at OLSH, even teaching two or three generations of some …

An Our Lady of the Sacred Heart sophomore is helping her mother and friends provide assistance for their native state.
An Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School student is doing her part to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Rachel Kim, a sophomore at the Moon Township school, is asking the community to donate items to help with the recovery effort in and around her mother’s hometown in New Jersey. Marshall Township resident Susan Kim, a native of Tinton Falls, NJ, has joined with some friends with roots in that area to provide assistance for those affected by the late-October storm. She and Patty Pellegrini, another New Jersey native, got the inspiration while attending last week’s North Hills concert by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, one of the Garden State’s best-known rock acts. They were reminded of Sandy’s carnage and the people who still…
