Moon Police: Readiness Key to Reacting, Protecting Yourself From Active Shooter

On the heels of several deadly mass shootings, a member of the local Critical Incident Response Team offers insight into reacting to an active shooter.

Just after 9 a.m. Thursday, a 16-year-old boy carried a 12-gauge shotgun into Taft Union High School in Kern County, California.  The boy walked into a classroom halfway through first period and fired, striking and critically wounding a classmate, according to reports. Police took the teenage shooter, whose name has not been released, into custody moments after the incident began. More than a dozen mass shootings in public settings, including one that killed 22 Connecticut elementary students, made headlines in 2012. What can Steve Jobs' unconventional path to success teach our children?

He was adopted. He dropped out of college and lied to a coworker. He fathered a child out of wedlock and denied paternity for some time. He has hinted at drug use. Does this sound like someone who ended up a billionaire and possibly the greatest inventor of our time? These are just a few facts about Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple Inc, who died  last week after a battle with pancreatic cancer. His influence on the way we listen to music, send and receive information, make phone calls, read books and probably more things I can’t think of is a perfect example of the American dream. Research has shown that being adopted can have negative emotional impact on children, yet it didn't hinder Mr. Jobs' success.
