ANNOUNCEMENT: Moon Youth Football Teams Advance to 'Superbowl'

The Tigers play Saturday in Moon Township.

Two Moon youth football teams will advance to the South Suburban Youth Football League's championship Superbowl.  The teams, both the 6 to 8-year-old Twerps and the 12 to 13-year-old Seniors, will play Nov. 17 at Tiger Stadium.  The Terps will take on West Allegheny at 10 a.m. and the Seniors play North Hills at 6 p.m.

RMU Lacrosse Hires Alum Sealock as Coach

The former university standout will join the Cololin

Robert Morris University's men's lacrosse team has tapped former university midfielder Jordon Sealock as assistant coach.  Sealock, a 2010 alum of the university and former all-conference player, served as an assistant coach for Seton Hill and played professionally following his graduation.  At Seton Hill, he aided in the Griffins' 12-4 record during the 2012 season, which it finished at a No. 8 national ranking in the season-ending poll.  Sealock also completed last season in 13 contests for the National Lacrosse League's Philadelphia Wings.  The Alberta native was a four-year letter winner at RMU and served as captain both his junior and senior seasons. You Sent It In: Boys Lacrosse Volunteers at Verland Foundation

The team took part in a service project on May 20.

Members of the Moon Area High School boys lacrosse team spent their day volunteering at the Moon Township-based Verland Foundation.  The team, which ranked second in its division at the end of this year's season, performed the volunteer work on May 20.  Moon lacrosse, which is in its second year at the Moon Area School District, will be included as a WPIAL sport during the 2012-2013 school year.  The Verland Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides a range of services to people with intellectual and physical disability.  Thanks to Patch reader Veronica Constantine for submitting these photos.

View Finder: Moon Gymnasts Honored at School Board Meeting

The team is recognized for its 2012 WPIAL Championship victory.

Members of the Moon Area High School gymnastics team were honored at Monday night's Moon Area School Board meeting for capturing the 2012 WPIAL Championship.  The February competition marked Moon's third WPIAL appearance and its first victory in the event since 2008.

Colonials Host Senior Tribute at Joe Walton Stadium

The team's final home game of the season takes place Saturday.

Robert Morris University football team this weekend will close the home schedule of its 2011 season with a match-up against Wagner College.  The university will honor a dozen graduating seniors before kickoff, which is scheduled for noon at Joe Walton Stadium. The group helped RMU earn its 2010 Northeast Conference regular season championship.  The team is coming off its fourth-straight loss of the season and has replaced injured quarterback Jeff Sinclair with freshman Matt Layman. The Colonials will finish the season Nov 19 at Duquesne.  Click here for more information.

The Moon Area School Board will hold its monthly meeting at 7 tonight in the high school meeting room. The board is expected to vote on approval of district school bus routes and drivers.  Check back with Patch first thing tomorrow for coverage. And click the media in this article to view the agenda.  The Moon Township Public Library is closed today for the Columbus Day holiday. Township offices and the Moon Area School District, however, remain open for the day.  The library will reopen for regular hours Tuesday.  The Moon Tigers will play Ambridge at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tigers Stadium. Thousands of Students, Alumni Pack RMU's Homecoming 'Tailgate Alley'

The Colonials take down St. Francis in a 45-14 Homecoming match-up.

Thousands of students and alumni converged on Robert Morris University's campus Saturday to mark the Moon university's Homecoming celebration.  Tailgaters packed a sold-out Joe Walton Stadium to watch the Colonials take down St. Francis in a 45-14 upset.  Attendees played games, grilled food and took in a free performance from The Clarks' frontman Scott Blasey.  Alumni met earlier in the day for reunion receptions on campus. Game Day Gallery: Moon Youth Football Takes on West Allegheny

At a cold and soggy Tiger Stadium, young football players and cheerleaders play the final home game of the season.

Moon Tigers youth football took on West Allegheny Sunday in the final regular-season match-up at Tiger Stadium.  Players and cheerleaders for the twerps, termites, mitey-mites, midget and senior level teams braved the rain and cool temperatures during the all-day event. The senior team defeated West Allegheny in a 38-6 upset.  Check out photos of the midget-level team above.
