RMU President Dell'Omo, Student Swap Places

One student earns the chance to shadow the RMU president.

One Robert Morris University junior got a glimpse at what it's like to be at the helm of the Moon-based university Sports management major Megan Herbstritt swapped places with President Gregory Dell'Omo earlier this month, spending some time in his office and learning first-hand how Dell'Omo manages his responsibilities as president.  "I mean, I knew he was a popular guy," Herbstritt said. "But I didn't know how busy he was. He had is schedule clear, but everybody still needed something." In exchange, Dell'Omo attended classes alongside Herbstritt, sitting in for sports marketing and technology topics courses and taking part in class activities with undergrads.  Herbstritt raised $1,056 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as a part of the …

Robert Morris University Renews Contract with President Dell'Omo

Dell'Omo will serve as president of Robert Morris University through 2017.

Robert Morris University's Board of Trustees has approved a new five-year contract for university President Gregory G. Dell'Omo.  Dell'Omo has served as president of the Moon Township-based university since 2005. His new agreement with the university expires May 31, 2017. RMU Launches New Downtown Program, Plans for Satellite Campuses

The university is launching a new degree program in downtown Pittsburgh.

The Moon-based Robert Morris University is launching a program based at a facility in downtown Pittsburgh as well as several regional satellite campuses, according to a university spokesman.  In the fall, RMU will open a "RMU Downtown," located at Heinz 57 Center on Sixth Avenue.  The program will offer bachelor's and master's degrees for part-time students. RMU's new Bayer Center for Non-Profit Management, which is now located at the Regional Enterprise Tower, at 600 Sixth Avenue, will be moved to Heinz 57 Center.  Six degree programs and two certificates will be offered at RMU Downtown, according to the university.  Plans are also underway to offer degree programs at locations in Southepointe in Washington County and Monroeville, said …

RMU Seniors Graduate Saturday

The Moon-based university hosts its annual commencement ceremony.

More than 500 Robert Morris University undergrads will receive their bachelor's degrees Saturday during the university's 87th annual commencement ceremony.  The ceremony is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Sewall Center Arena. Saleem Ghubril, executive director of the Pittsburgh Promise, will be featured as the event's keynote speaker.  Also speaking at the undergraduate ceremony will be class of 2012 president Besart Stavileci, who also will receive the university's Presidential Transformational Award. RMU will host its graduate student commencement ceremony at 4 p.m. on Friday, also in the Sewall Center Arena. RMU Student Remembered as Loyal Friend, Inspiration

RMU senior Marco Giovengo died March 16 in Lexington Hall on Robert Morris University's campus.

Friends and university officials remember Robert Morris University student Marco Giovengo as a loyal friend who blossomed during his time as a student at the Moon-based university. Giovengo, 22, of McCandless, died the evening of March 16 when his heart stopped beating in his Lexington Hall dorm room on campus, according to a story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  Giovengo, who was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy, was scheduled to graduate in May. The newspaper reports that he was goodwill ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Giovengo was a drummer in the university's marching band and was selected for the university's 2011 homecoming court. The senior sports management major was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa …

Skating Coach Banned from RMU for 'Improper Behavior'

The university did not identify the coach, who is an independent contractor.

Robert Morris University has banned a speed skating coach from university facilities after allegations of improper behavior. The coach, who the university did not identify in a statement, was an independent contractor coaching members of the university's speed skating team at the Island Sports Center on Neville Island. Several of those skaters are affiliated with the Pittsburgh Speed Skating Club, which notified the university of the allegations and contacted Pittsburgh city police. The university did not provide details of the allegations. The university said in a statement that it would "fully cooperate with any investigation." RMU Unveils New School of Business

Donors and alumni gather for a glimpse of the Moon university's new building.

Robert Morris University last night opened the doors to its new, 18,000-square-foot School of Business complex to alumni and donors.  There was a reception marking the university's 90th anniversary and the opening of the new facility, which will house multimedia classrooms, an 18-seat Cisco teleconference room,and 12 Bloomberg terminals to give students real-time financial market data.  The building is funded through a $40 million capital fund-raising campaign, the largest in the university's history. According to the university, $36 million has already been raised toward the goal.  The university was founded in September 1921. In 2009, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accredited RMU's School of Business.
