Gov. Tom Corbett signed into a law the renaming of the interchange.
The traffic interchange at Interstate 376 and Ewing Road will be named after a former member of the Moon Board of Supervisors. Township resident Jack Wise, who was first appointed to the board to fill a vacancy in 1981, served as both a supervisor and founding member of the Moon Transportation Authority and Thorn Run Interchange group. Wise, a former candidate for the state legislature, is credited with cultivating public-private partnerships that lead to intersection improvements in Moon. He continued to sit on the board until 1989, said Moon communications director Alexis Sergeant. Rep. Mark Mustio, R-Moon, introduced a bill during the 2012 legislative season to rename the Ewing Road roundabout as the "Jack Wise Interchange," in honor …

The township also awards naming rights to the baseball field to Verizon Wireless.
The Moon Board of Supervisors approved the purchased of $207,190 in lighting equipment for Moon Park's baseball field. The new lights, purchased under a state contract through Musco Sports Lighting, will feature 80 foot-candles, shining bright enough to meet NCAA standards. The purchase includes only lighting equipment—the board also authorized the release of bid specifications for the installation of the new system. Supervisors also moved to award naming rights for the field to Verizon Wireless. Township Manager Jeanne Creese said the sponsorship will help offset lighting costs on the field. Dana Kasler, director of Moon Parks and Recreation, said the lights will enable the field to host more games, potentially bringing in adult …

Have you driven through the new traffic circle?
Allegheny County Airport Authority officials said it was built with economic development in mind. Late last month, the authority re-opened the Ewing Road Interstate 376 on-and-off exit ramps to motorists, unveiling a newly designed traffic roundabout that is one of the first to be built in recent years in Allegheny County. The project, which the airport authority funded, cost $950,000 and shuttered the exit ramps for more than four months during construction. Randy Forester, senior director of development for the authority, told Patch the roundabout will improve traffic management in the area as the number of vehicles on the road increases during the next decade. So what do you think? Have you traveled on the roadway? Was the project …

The Allegheny County Airport Authority says the project is nearing completion.
The Ewing Road on-and-off ramps along Interstate 376 East are to reopen to motorists Oct. 31, said Pittsburgh International Airport spokeswoman Joann Jenny. The Allegheny County Airport Authority shuttered the roadway’s ramps June 27 to install traffic roundabouts in the area. Motorists have been forced to take detours around the closed ramps while work on the $950,000-project takes place. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation earlier this year issued the authority a highway occupancy permit for the project. Randy Forester, senior director of development for the authority, said the roundabouts will help better manage traffic in the intersection, which is expected to greatly increase in the next decade. Forester said the reason to …

The ramp will open temporarily to alleviate traffic congestion.
The Interstate 376 East Ewing Road on-ramp will re-open Monday to accommodate the Moon Township July 4 Celebration. The Allegheny County Airport Authority earlier this month closed the ramp to install a traffic roundabout at the I-376 and Ewing Road intersection. Construction on the $950,000 project is expected to be completed by October. Moon spokeswoman Meghan McNamara said township officials worked with the airport authority to temporarily open the ramp in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion from the July 4 celebration Monday at Moon Park. The ramp will close again for motorists Tuesday morning. Ewing Road will also be closed to motorists from Beaver Grade to Coraopolis Heights Road from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday.

Road crews will be performing work on the road's Interstate's on-and-off ramps.
Motorists will have to contend with ramp closures off Ewing road through October. The Allegheny County Airport Authority soon will begin a $950,000 project to improve the Interstate 376 and Ewing Road intersection in the township, according to a PennDOT announcement. The project will include construction of a new roundabout for the roadway's I-376's on-and-off ramps. Construction will begin on June 27, weather permitting. On-and-off ramps for the eastbound I-376 business loop will be closed until the project's planned late-October completion. The primary contractor is Imperial-based Golden Triangle Construction Co. Inc. The authority obtained a highway occupancy permit for the project. PennDOT has provided the following suggested …
