FBI Releases Crime Figures for Robinson, Moon

The Federal Bureau of Investigation releases its uniform crime report for communities across the country, including Robinson, Moon and the surrounding area.

The number of violent crimes reported in Moon and Robinson increased from 2010 to 2011, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's newly released uniform crime report.  The FBI has released its annual report for 2011—providing a glimpse at the crimes reported to local law enforcement for that year.  The FBI and U.S. Department of Justice publish the annual crime report annually, which features statistics gathered from communities from across the country. Crescent Commissioners, Moon Officials to Discuss Police Patrol Changes

The two parties will hold a closed-door, informational meeting to discuss police patrols in Crescent Township.

Members of Moon's Board of Supervisors will sit down with Crescent commissioners to discuss the possibility of police patrol changes in the neighboring townships.  Crescent Township Commissioner Karen Patton requested the meeting, Moon Township Manager Jeanne Creese said. The closed-door meeting will be only informational, supervisors said during their Wednesday night workshop session. No date has yet been scheduled.  The meeting will not have a quorum: Moon Supervisors Jim Vitale and John Hertzer will meet with two of Crescent's commissioners. Crescent Residents Express Dismay at Rumors of Police Disbanding

Residents come out in support of local police after hearing word that officials have looked to disband the department.

Crescent commissioners shrugged off rumors that the township has taken steps to disband its police department and hand off patrolling duties to the neighboring Moon Police.  Residents poured into the township's municipal building, many expressing concern that commissioners in July met with Moon Police about the possibility of taking over patrols in Crescent.  Crescent commissioners maintained that no immediate plans are underway to cut the community's police force.  Crescent Police, who are in the midst of collective bargaining negotiations with township officials, filed an unfair labor complaint against Crescent in 2011. Man Charged with Possessing Heroin, Leading Police on High-Speed Chase

The Coraopolis man has also been charged with driving on a suspended license.

A Coraopolis man who led officers from across the region on a high-speed car chase earlier this month was found this week on Stevenson Mill Road with heroin in his car, Moon Police said.  Deno Alfred Berardi, 18, was charged Sunday with heroin possession, intent to deliver or sell heroin and driving on a suspended license. Police said Berardi lead officers from Moon, Crescent, Stowe, Coraopolis and Findlay on a high-speed car chase at 2 a.m. Feb. 2, driving down Brodhead and Flaugherty Run roads at speeds in excess of 100 mph, according to police records.  Police said Berardi ditched his vehicle in a wooded area on Moon Clinton Road and fled. A Crescent Township woman who owned the vehicle later told police that she loaned it to Berardi …

Suspects Charged in Prostitution Stings Face Hearings

Seven people charged in a prostitution sting that Moon Police conducted in October face hearings today in Coraopolis District Court. Police from Moon, Cranberry and Pittsburgh last month operated an undercover prostitution sting at an undisclosed Moon apartment complex, charging 10 people with prostitution-related offenses and two with child endangerment.  Police said the people charged agreed to meet with detectives to have sex in exchange for money.  Those who will appear before Magisterial Judge Mary Murray in connection to the sting include:  In other local cases, these people face hearings today:

FBI Releases Crime Statistics For Moon, Crescent

The FBI's uniform crime statistics show no significant increases in violent crime from 2009 to 2010 in the townships.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation's recently released Uniform Crime Statistics show reported violent crime incidents in Crescent and Moon townships have remained much the same from 2009 to 2010. According to the report, 11 incidents of violent crime were reported to police in Moon Township in 2010. In Crescent, 12 violent crime incidents were reported. In 2009, the FBI's statistics showed 12 violent crimes reported in Moon and 10 in Crescent. The FBI and U.S. Department of Justice publish the annual crime report yearly, which features statistics for individual communities from across the country.
