Crescent, Moon Leaders to Discuss Sharing Police Services, Costs

Crescent Township officials seek the meeting on a proposal to obtain police coverage from Moon officers. They also appoint a new, permanent police chief.

Moon Township supervisors and Crescent commissioners have agreed to meet and discuss police services in their neighboring communities. A date for the meeting has not been scheduled, Crescent Manager Patience Eckhardt said. In September, Crescent Commissioner Karen Patton requested a meeting with Moon Township Supervisors to explore a potential contract for police services with Moon's department.  Members of Crescent's Board of Commissioners have expressed interest in disbanding the community's police department in favor of contracting out services to Moon Township's police department as a cost-savings measure. Mary Ann, As a lifelong resident, surely you know how to read the township minutes. They clearly document how many miles the police travel each month, the number of calls they respond to, arrests made, etc. Surely you are aware that Grady's does all the service/repairs on township vehicles. Dashields Dam Project Canceled over McCutcheon Way Dispute

An official with the Army Corps of Engineers said funding that was targeted for a local dam and road repair will now go to other infrastructure projects.

Money that the Army Corps of Engineers offered up to fix both the Dashields Lock and Dam on the Ohio River and Crescent Township's McCutcheon Way has been allocated for other projects.  An Army Corps spokeswoman said the corps canceled the $5 million dam remediation and road repair after recent negotiations with Crescent officials deteriorated. The funding will now be awarded to other infrastructure projects.  Crescent Township shuttered McCutcheon Way in May 2011 after it was discovered that the hillside roadway's surface was sinking and sliding downhill. The road is the only entry point to the community's Shouse Park, which has also remained closed since last spring.  No re-opening timeline for the park or road has been announced. The …
