Moon Developer Can Again Receive Building Permits After Shoring Up Landslide Threat

Moon officials approved issuing building permits to a local developer after the completion of a years-long landslide threat.

A Moon-based housing developer can again receive building permits from the township after resolving a landslide threat near Flaughterty Run and Becks Run roads.  The Moon Township Board of Supervisors approved a measure to again issue building permits to NewPointe Realty, developer of the Autumn Woods housing plan. Moon Planning Director Adam McGurk said the company's contractors have completed the year-long remediation of a landslide off Flaughterty Run Road.  Township officials said an improperly installed stormwater basin at the foot of the 34-home development pushed sediment downward toward Flaugherty Run Road, uprooting trees, eroding land and threatening to dam Flaugherty Run. Moon Supervisors Approve New RMU Nursing Center

Robert Morris University plans a new building for its nursing program.

The Moon Board of Supervisors approved the development plan for a 37,000-square foot building that will house Robert Morris University's School of Nursing.  The three-story building will also hold RMU's Regional Research and Innovation in Simulation Education program—called the RISE Center—which enables nursing students to do clinical training with computerized mannequins.  The plan was approved Wednesday night in a 4-to-0 vote; Supervisor Frank Sinatra was not present at the meeting. No information on the building's construction timeline was immediately available.
