Planners Craft Final Blueprint for Moon Township Waterfront Park

Officials plan to open a park at site of a former Moon Township industrial site.

Land-use planner Sean Garrigan said a master plan for Moon Township's proposed waterfront park along the Ohio River could be approved by March.  Garrigan, who briefed Moon supervisors Wednesday on the project's progress, said planners and township officials are readying a final draft of the park's master plan, which will be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.  Moon Parks and Recreation officials for much of the past year have worked alongside planners, crafting a park design and environmental remediation plan for a 17-acre property on University Boulevard, overlooking the Ohio River.  The proposed park will be cornered between the Sewickley Bridge and Fab-Tec Industries along Route 51. Residents Envision Future Moon Riverfront Park

Trains that run through a waterfront property slated to become a township park could pose difficulty for the project.

One resident suggested a waterfront promenade that could stretch along the banks of the Ohio River. Another proposed a splash pad for children to cool off and a place to dock kayaks and canoes.  Moon residents on Tuesday night were asked to envision the future of the township's planned 17-acre waterfront park, which will be located off University Boulevard.  Developers from the Somerset-based firm Stromberg Garrigan & Associates, which has been pegged by the township to spearhead the project, met with community members to collect feedback and share initial findings of the park plan.  Lance Welliver, assistant director for Moon Parks and Recreation, said the township will hold another set of meetings before presenting its final plan for the…

being this area is in the flood plain i wouldnt put any expensive equipment down there.its ok for some pavillions and a beach.and if a dock is put in make it a permanement fixture.it is always good to start small until you see if this area is going to work out ok   more ›
