Visions for Vacancy: 7-Eleven in Moon

The Brodhead Road convenience store has closed its doors.

Vacant buildings and unused storefronts are eyesores, but an empty storefront can also be an opportunity. You don't need to be a commercial developer or city planner—or have money to invest in a business project—to have the next great idea. The 7-Eleven convenience store at 998 Brodhead Road closed its doors at the end of March.  Now we want to know: What business would benefit the Moon-area community? How could this space better serve you and your neighbors? If you had your pick, what business would move into this Brodhead Road property? Share your thoughts, ideas and concerns in the comments. Tell us what your vision is for this Moon Township vacancy.

Visions for Vacancy: Hoss's Steakhouse

What should move into this newly vacant Beaver Grade Road building?

Vacant buildings and unused storefronts are eyesores, but an empty storefront can also be an opportunity. You don't need to be a commercial developer or city planner—or have money to invest in a business project—to have the next great idea. The property a 1011 Beaver Grade Road is newly vacant—Hoss's Steak and Sea House shuttered its doors at the building earlier this month, after more than 20 years in business.  The property is owned by Hoss's Restaurant Operations LLC, according to county property records.  Now that Hoss's has closed, we want to know: What business would benefit the Moon-area community? How could this space better serve you and your neighbors? If you had your pick, what business would move into this Beaver Grade Road …

A gas station would make the most sense. If you live on the side of Moon closest to Robinson you have no where to get gas unless you go into moon or have a membership to Costco. Moon needs to do something that makes sense for once.   more ›

New Dollar Bank Coming to Steubenville Pike

Development is underway at vacant storefronts featured in Robinson-Moon Patch's "Visions for Vacancy."

The empty Krispy Kreme location on Steubenville Pike will re-open as a Dollar Bank branch.  Dollar Bank vice president Sandra Wise said the branch is slated to open on Nov. 19. Renovations are now underway at the site.  Built in 2004, the 3,532 square-foot retail space closed as a donut shop several years ago, alongside neighboring Krispy Kreme chain locations in Collier and Monroeville.  Dollar Bank maintains local offices on Beaver Grade Road in Moon, Walsh Road in Crafton and Beaver Street in Sewickley.  In Moon Township, supervisors earlier this month approved a final land development plan for an AutoZone retail store on the site of the former Triva Pub and Beer Store on University Boulevard. Developers have been in talks to demolish …

Visions for Vacancy: Former Trivia Pub

Update: What should move into this building?

Update: Township Planning Director Adam McGurk said that Autozone has submitted a revised application to develop on the property.  Vacant buildings and unused storefronts are eyesores, but an empty storefront can also be an opportunity. You don't need to be a commercial developer or city planner—or have money to invest in a business project—to have the next great idea. The former Trivia Pub and Beer Store on University Boulevard were once Moon Township staples—the watering hole across from Robert Morris University's campus served as a bar for more than 60 years.  The property was tapped to become an Autozone location. In January, Akron, OH company LRC AZ Investors purchased the land and accompanying building for $619,750. Since that sale, …

Well, if Autozone's revised application doesn't pan out, I would suggest RMU purchase the building. It already has a kind of Colonial theme to it. RMU could use the building to form a "bridge" between the school and the community.   more ›

Visions for Vacancy: What Should Move into this Building?

A former confectionary shop now sits empty on Steubenville Pike. What do you think should move into this property?

Vacant buildings and unused storefronts are eyesores, but an empty storefront can also be an opportunity. You don't need to be a commercial developer or city planner—or have money to invest in a business project—to have the next great idea This empty retail space at 6460 Steubenville Pike was built in 2004 and once served Robinson-area sweet-tooths as a Krispy Kreme donut shop—you can still see the confectionary chain's signature pink and green signs hanging inside.  The 3,532 square-foot building, complete with a drive-through window, sits on a prime piece of Robinson real estate and is available for $750,000 with a yearly lease assignment, according to commercial real estate listings. Visions for Vacancy: What Should Move into this Building?

What should move into this abandoned storefront on University Boulevard?

Vacant buildings and unused storefronts are eyesores, but an empty storefront can also be an opportunity. You don't need to be a commercial developer or city planner—or have money to invest in a business project—to have the next great idea. This vacant storefront at 8754 University Boulevard has a past that might be unsavory for some. Formerly known as the Sports Health Spa, it was raided by law enforcement in 2008 after it was found to be a brothel fronting as a massage parlor.  These days, it sits empty on a piece of prime University Boulevard real estate. It was assessed this year at a market value of $220,300.  What business would benefit the Moon area community? How could this space better serve you and your neighbors? If you had it …

Vision for Vacancy: What Should Move into this Building?

Tell us what business you would like to see move into this property at the corner of Carnot and Beaver Grade roads.

Vacant buildings and unused storefronts are eyesores, but an empty storefront can also be an opportunity. You don't need to be a commercial developer or city planner—or have money to invest in a business project—to have the next great idea. The former Carnot Beer Distributor building at the corner of Carnot and Beaver Grade roads is a piece of prime real estate in Moon—a Dunkin Donut will open next door in the coming months, and there are several fast-food joints right across the street. Township supervisors recently said that commercial developers had expressed interest in the nearby township garage.  But this building remains vacant, and we want to know what business you envision for this vacancy.   What business would benefit the Moon …
