Montour boys basketball takes on Chartiers Valley tonight at Duquesne University's Palumbo Center. The WPIAL District 7 Championship begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are available this morning at David E. Williams Middle School and throughout the day at Montour High School. Prior to the game, tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. All tickets at the door are $10. The Spartans defeated Mars Tuesday during the semi-finals at Moon Area High School in a 61 to 52 match-up.

Have you tried the Boyce Park slopes?
Looking for a place to ski, tube and snowboard without having to make a long trek from the Sewickley area? The Boyce Park ski slopes and tubing area in Plum Borough is open for the season. Boyce is the only location for downhill skiing in Allegheny County, with ski lifts, a large ski lodge called Four Seasons, and all the amenities,according to the park's website. Weather and conditions permitting, slopes will be open on weekdays from 3:30 to 9:30 p.m. On weekends, slopes will be open for two sessions, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4 to 9:30 p.m. The Boyce Park Ski Area offers rental equipment for skiers and snowboarders, in addition to private and group lessons. Robert Morris University invites fans to tonight's Halloween game.
Looking for something to do tonight now that trick-or-treating is cancelled? Fans attending tonight's Robert Morris University women's basketball game can take part in a Halloween costume contest, said Marty Galosi, RMU's senior associate director of atheltics. The Colonials will take on Shippensburg at 7 p.m. at the Sewall Center. Call 412.397.4949 or visit RMUColonials.com for tickets. As students in the Montour School District head back to the classroom, columnist Gab Bonesso remembers her first day of ninth grade honors English class.
It was my first day of ninth grade. Twenty-eight nervous 14-year-olds shuffled into Mrs. Ullman’s honors English class. As students at David E. Williams Middle School, the stories of Mrs. Ullman’s English class had trickled down. We were understandably and knowingly nervous. Mrs. Ullman entered the room looking like a rock star. She had the figure of a female superhero and she had long, wild blond hair that was usually wind-blown from riding her motorcycle to work. She stood at a podium and pointed to a model guillotine that rested on top of a cabinet. Calmly, she spoke “Charles Dickens wrote: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
