Moon Area High School and Sewickley Academy students are collecting items to be sent to local military members deployed in Afghanistan. Moon student John Bal and Sewickley Academy student Jack Matten are soliciting donations for care packages, which will be shipped to Moon Township's 303rd Army Reserve Unit, based at McGarity Reserve Center off University Boulevard. The students hope to gather toiletries and basic comfort items for the unit. In addition, they seek to raise $1,000 to pay for shipping costs. A local teenager volunteers time in Haiti.
A Robinson Township teen will attend a Haitian mission later this month. Nehemiah Norris, an 18-year-old senior at the Sewickley Academy, will travel to Haiti Oct. 3 through Oct. 10 with the Functional Literacy Ministry, a Pittsburgh-based organization founded in 1983 that works to provide basic education and meals to Haitian children. Norris is the son of Rev. Urie and Denise Norris.

Why Go: Need some new threads? The 58th Clothesline and Used Book Sale has everything from designer men's, women's and children's clothing to fashion accessories, sports equipment, books and furniture. Sunday is half-price day, and Monday is $25-bag day. Proceeds from the annual fundraiser benefit the school, teachers and students. Admission: Free, but be prepared to spend. 2.
