READ: Casey, Toomey Submit Letter to Senate Leadership on 911th

Pennsylvania senators disapprove of the most recent efforts to shut down the 911th Airlift Wing, according to a joint letter addressed to Armed Services Committee leadership.

  In a letter to Senate leadership, Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton, and Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Zionsville, expressed their disapproval of recent efforts to close the 911th Airlift Wing in Moon Township. Casey and Toomey submitted a joint letter to Sen. Carl Levin, R-MI, chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, and ranking member Sen. John McCain, R-AZ.  The correspondence was provided Monday during a meeting of the Military Affairs Coalition of Western Pennsylvania. MTA Officials Seek Federal Funding for Interchange

Township leaders want to revamp the Thorn Run Road ramp and signals to eliminate congestion and rush-hour snarls.

 Officials from the Moon Transportation Authority met with federal lawmakers last week in Washington, D.C., to request funding for a local transportation project to improve an interchange.  MTA President Mark Scappe and authority board members Frank Sinatra and Tom Weaver attended meetings Wednesday with Sen. Pat Toomey, Sen. Bob Casey and Rep. Tim Murphy.  Scappe said the authority was seeking $3 million in federal funding to improve the Thorn Run Road interchange off Interstate 376. The $4.5 million project would include new traffic signals in the intersection as well as a redesigned exit ramp off the interstate, Scappe said.  Scappe said a preliminary design for the interchange was in the process of being approved by the Pennsylvania …

This intersection is a nightmare, and needs redesigned. Thank you Mr.Scappe and the rest of the MTA board in recognizing this and pursuing federal funds for the project. I'm not sure why it was originally designed this way but it is a terrible design.   more ›
