Senior receives Seton Hill scholarship Mara Willette, a senior at Moon Area High School, received a full scholarship to Seton Hill University. Willette maintains a 3.7 QPA, and is a member of the National Honor Society, Art and Literature Club, drama club stage crew and bowling team. As students in the Montour School District head back to the classroom, columnist Gab Bonesso remembers her first day of ninth grade honors English class.
It was my first day of ninth grade. Twenty-eight nervous 14-year-olds shuffled into Mrs. Ullman’s honors English class. As students at David E. Williams Middle School, the stories of Mrs. Ullman’s English class had trickled down. We were understandably and knowingly nervous. Mrs. Ullman entered the room looking like a rock star. She had the figure of a female superhero and she had long, wild blond hair that was usually wind-blown from riding her motorcycle to work. She stood at a podium and pointed to a model guillotine that rested on top of a cabinet. Calmly, she spoke “Charles Dickens wrote: It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. The Moon Township Garden Club is offering a $1,500 scholarship to students planning a career related to landscape design or environmental issues. The organization said the scholarship is open to students majoring in a field of study related to careers in gardening, landscape design, floral design, horticulture or wildlife management. Applicants must be residents of Moon or Crescent to be eligible. Students can find applications and guidlines in the guidance department of the Moon Area High School. The deadline to apply is March 1.
