Frost is possible Saturday morning.
It's going to a be a chilly start to the Memorial Day weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for the Moon and Robinson area. The advisory will remain in effect from 3 to 8 a.m. Saturday as temperatures hover around 32 degrees. Be sure to cover your sensitive plants and bring potted plants indoors. A resident of Robinson Township has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of filing false income tax returns, submitting false writing or document to the government and making a false statement to government. The four-count indictment released May 23 named Wayne R. Lieberman as the sole defendant. Lieberman is the proprietor of an accounting and tax preparation business known as the Wayne R. Lieberman Agency, located at 5048 Windover Dr., Robinson Township. According to the indictment, Lieberman submitted false personal income tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service for the years 2007 and 2008. The watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Southwestern Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County. The watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service, which says some storms cound be severe with damaging winds. The chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected mainly after 5 p.m. and before midnight. A hazardous weather outlook is also in effect this week, with frosty and potentially freezing conditions possible on Friday and Saturday nights and possibly Sunday. Police in Moon, Robinson, Crescent and other surrounding communities will be out for Memorial Day weekend.
The West Hills DUI Task Force will be conducting enforcement operations over Memorial Day weekend. These operations will be in the form of sobriety checkpoints and/or roving DUI patrols between May 24 and 26. Taking part in the operations are officers from Moon, Robinson and Crescent townships. Also part of the effort are officers from Avalon, Bellevue, Carnegie, Coraopolis, Edgeworth, Leetsdale and Sewickley boroughs; and Findlay, Kennedy, North Fayette, Ohio and Stowe townships. Unprotected plants will be damaged.
The Moon and Robinson area, as well as the surrounding region, is under a freeze warning from 1 to 8 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service predicts temperatures may dip into the 20s overnight. Meteorologists warn that unprotected outdoor plants will likely be damaged or killed, so cover the plants and bring potted plants indoors. The temperature is expected to rise throughout the week. The high on Wednesday will be around 80 degrees.
