Moon Township Police said a Yellow Cab taxi driver fled from his vehicle after two men robbed him at gunpoint Wednesday on Cedar Drive. Police have charged Brandon Brown, 23, and Lynard Grace Jr., 23, both of Pittsburgh, with felony robbery and aggravated assault in the incident. Police said the cab driver picked up Brown, Grace and an unidentified woman at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday in McKees Rocks. The group instructed the driver to go to Coraopolis and then to the Mooncrest neighborhood in Moon Township. Three men break into a residence at the Laurelwood Apartment complex demanding money and drugs.
Cranberry Police are investigating after three armed men broke into a residence at the Laurelwood Apartment complex off Rochester Road in Cranberry Thursday night and demanded drugs and money. According to police, the men entered the townhouse, which is occupied by five construction workers temporarily working in the Pittsburgh area, at about 8:05 p.m. The suspects, who were carrying at least one long gun and a handgun, bound the men while they ransacked the apartment, police said. Within 15 minutes of the break-in, two other occupants of the apartments arrived home and surprised the suspects, according to police. Moon Police said a robber held a Uni-Mart clerk at gunpoint while he took an undisclosed amount of money from the Coraopolis Heights Road store. The incident marks the second armed robbery in the past six months at the convenience store and gas station. A Uni-Mart employee said a man in his early 20s brandishing a gun walked into the store at 2 a.m. May 19 and demanded money from the cash register. Police did not disclose the amount of money taken from the store. The suspect may have fled through a nearby wooded area, police said. No injuries were reported. Police have arrested and charged two Beaver County brothers with robbery and other offenses in connection with the holdups of Family Video stores in Moon and Scott earlier this month. Jerome Cutler, 23, and Willie Cutler, 21, were arrested Tuesday, police said. They are in jail on $100,000 straight bond each, according to court records. The brothers are suspects in the armed robbery of the Family Video store on Fifth Avenue on Aug. 22 and in a second holdup of a Family Video branch on Washington Avenue in Scott, near Carnegie. In addition, store officials have said they believe the cases may be linked to a robbery several weeks ago of a Family Video store in New Brighton. Moon Police said two men carrying guns robbed Family Video on Fifth Avenue late Monday night. Police said the men, wearing black hoodies with black bandanas covering their faces, pointed a semi-automatic gun at a store employee's face and demanded all of the money in the store's cash register. Two store employees were the only people present during the incident. No injuries were reported. U.S. Marshal Service makes arrest with the help of Moon, Boardman, OH police.
An Ohio man charged with bank robbery was arrested at a Moon hotel Friday by the U.S. Marshal Service. Brandon Schmitt, 40, of Warren, OH, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the America's Best Value Inn on University Boulevard by the U.S. Marshal Service. Police in Boardman, OH issued a warrant for his arrest earlier this month. Schmitt is accused of taking more than $5,000 from a First National Bank on Jan. 13, according to Sgt. Michael Hughes of the Boardman police. Hughes said $5,696 in cash was recovered from the hotel room following the arrest. "Why [Schmitt] ended up in Moon Township, we have no idea," Hughes said.
