Traffic Advisory: Route 65 Research Planned for Future Improvements

The research and drilling work will occur this week.

If you're planning to travel Route 65 on Wednesday or Thursday, be aware that PennDOT will be conducting geotechnical drilling and research. James Struzzi, PennDOT spokesman, said the work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3 and Thursday, April 4 weather permitting. Crews will be performing pavement core drilling operations between Interstate 79 in Glenfield and Chestnut Street in Sewickley as part of research for future improvements on Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard). Lane closures will occur in various locations as needed both days. Motorists are advised to use caution and expect changing traffic patterns.

PennDOT Plans Research for Future Bridge Improvements in Findlay

The work includes geotechnical drilling on Potato Garden Road.

PennDOT plans to conduct geotechnical drilling and research for a future bridge replacement project on Potato Garden Road in Findlay Township, PennDOT said. The work starts Monday, March 25 and runs through Friday, March 29.  Crews will be performing pavement core drilling operations in the bridge location on Potato Garden Road north of the intersection with Strouss and Moody roads.  Lane closures are planned as needed from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Crews from SJB Services, Inc. will conduct the work, PennDOT said.

American Cancer Society Seeks Cancer Study Volunteers from Robinson, Moon

"Champions" from communities near Sewickley are needed to participate in a cancer prevention study called CPS-3.

The American Cancer Society is currently seeking volunteers from the Moon and Robinson area to become “champions” who can help spread the word about a historic cancer research study.  The study is called CPS-3 (Cancer Prevention Study-3) because it’s the third of the national cancer prevention studies. Sharon Stalter, health initiatives representative, said the first, CPS-1, occurred in the 1950s and established the link between smoking and lung cancer, eventually leading to surgeon general warnings. CPS-2 examined the impact of environmental and lifestyle factors on cancer. “Pretty much anything you hear about that prevents cancer is linked to this study,” Stalter said.
