The 911th Airlift wing in Moon will remain open for another year, but uncertainty remains about its future.
The 911th Airlift Wing will keep its eight C-130 tactical aircraft through 2014, maintaining its full flying mission for one year. U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, announced today that a planned 2013 closure of the base will not occur. Operations at the base will continue into next year, Murphy said in a statement. The Air Force renewed the base's mission today. The 911th has faced previous closure attempts, including one in 2005. “The past 12 months aside, countless members of our community have been fighting since 2004 to block misguided and misinformed attempts to close the 911th," Murphy said in a statement. President Barack Obama delivered is state of the union address Tuesday night.
Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, said President Barack Obama failed to address lofty national unemployment rates during his state of the union address Tuesday. Murphy also criticized the president's handling during the speech of an elementary school massacre in Newtown, CT that claimed the lives of 20 school children. The Moon and Robinson-area Congressman reportedly has a sore back.
U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, is leading the Veterans’ Affairs Committee's investigative hearing on the outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh—and he showed up in a wheelchair. Twitter was abuzz with the news when Washington correspondent of Cox Media Group Seth MacFarlene sent out the tweet: Rep Tim Murphy (R-PA) enters House VA Cmte hearing in wheelchair. Suffering back injury, spokeswoman says. Patch reached out to Murphy's spokeswoman, who is currently busy with the hearing. According to a study by The Washington Times, U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, is the fifth worst boss on Capitol Hill based on staff turnover rates. The Washington Times analyzed a decade of congressional pay records to find the offices with the highest turnover rates and it found that Murphy has a 42 percent average turnover rate, peaking at 64 percent in 2006. President Barack Obama took his second oath of office Monday during the official swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol building in Washington D.C. Congressmen Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, and Mike Doyle, D-Forest Hills, weighed in on Obama's second-term inauguration, which was celebrated by more than 700,000 people gathered near the National Mall. Lawmakers are again working to stave off a closure of the Moon Township air reserve station.
The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee has endorsed efforts to prevent the Moon-based 911th Airlift Wing from closing down. Rep. Buck McKeon, R-CA, today urged Air Force officials to halt efforts to close the air wing as a cost-cutting measure. According to a statement from McKeon: Installations like the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station have been vital to supporting our men and women deployed in harms way. New concepts in warfare have made our soldiers on the ground more dependent than ever on airlift assets like Pittsburgh's C-130s. A TV debate between U.S. Rep. "On the morning of Sept. 15, I had the very distinct honor of attending a breakfast and ceremony recognizing Southwestern Pennsylvania Veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The ceremony was held at the Bethel Park Community Center. The community center was packed with veterans and their families as Congressman Tim Murphy lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Sonia Stopperich, a North Strabane Township Supervisor, followed with an exceptional rendition of the National Anthem. Crews are slated to begin work in the coming weeks on the long-awaited military commissary, which will serve service personnel from the Tri-State region.
Construction on a 43,000-square-foot Moon Township military commissary will begin Aug. 17. The long-planned project will break ground at the corner of University Boulevard and the Interstate 376 Business Route, according to a statement released by Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair. The commissary will act as a grocery store and trading post exclusively for more than 160,000 military personnel and family members in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. It will replace the region's existing commissary in Oakdale. The post is expected to be completed by October 2013.
