Air Force: 911th Airlift Wing Mission Secure Through 2014

The 911th Airlift wing in Moon will remain open for another year, but uncertainty remains about its future.

The 911th Airlift Wing will keep its eight C-130 tactical aircraft through 2014, maintaining its full flying mission for one year.  U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, announced today that a planned 2013 closure of the base will not occur. Operations at the base will continue into next year, Murphy said in a statement.  The Air Force renewed the base's mission today. The 911th has faced previous closure attempts, including one in 2005. “The past 12 months aside, countless members of our community have been fighting since 2004 to block misguided and misinformed attempts to close the 911th," Murphy said in a statement. The 911th's mission after 2014 remains unclear. Murphy said efforts to stave off a closure have not ended. “Despite …

As always, Congressman Murphy has mixed words of praise for the President but, then goes on to vote in lock step with the House Republican disfunctional block that is stalling our national government getting anything done. Twelve percent of the people support you, eighty-eight percent don't and know that you're doing harm to the nation.   more ›

I think this great, it shows he's not a coddling politician who creates feather bed jobs for friends, cronies, and family. Doesn't Harrisburg & washing ton have too many patronage jobs for life? Kudos to Rep. Murphy for keeping a fresh staff!   more ›

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Expresses Support for 911th

Lawmakers are again working to stave off a closure of the Moon Township air reserve station.

The chairman of the House Armed Services Committee has endorsed efforts to prevent the Moon-based 911th Airlift Wing from closing down.  Rep. Buck McKeon, R-CA, today urged Air Force officials to halt efforts to close the air wing as a cost-cutting measure.  According to a statement from McKeon:  Installations like the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station have been vital to supporting our men and women deployed in harms way. New concepts in warfare have made our soldiers on the ground more dependent than ever on airlift assets like Pittsburgh's C-130s. The Air Force didn't take those missions into account when they offered their plans to cut inventory earlier this year. Congress has directed them to correct that error and fully appreciate the …

The candidates for the 18th Congressional District took part in a debate aired Tuesday night.

A TV debate between U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Upper St. Clair, and Democratic challenger Larry Maggi aired on PCNC Tuesday night and got heated when discussing whether Maggi supports President Barack Obama and his health care bill. When Murphy said Maggi "supports the president," Maggi responded: "I'm not in Congress, I'm a county commissioner. I appreciate the title you're giving me, but I have not voted (in Congress) or supported the president." "You said you supported the Democrat ticket and that you support President Obama," Murphy said. "I never said that," Maggi responded. "Yes you did, you said it as the Westmoreland debate. I have it on tape," Murphy said. The candidates also bickered while discussing President Obama's health care …

It's good to know we have a sitting Congressman who is very familiar with the issues in our country. It's also good to know he is using conservative values to try to resolve those issues before we fall off the fiscal cliff. Send Congressman Murphy back to DC. You Sent It In: Rep. Murphy Honors Moon Vet in Ceremony

A reader submits photos and a recap of a Bethel Park ceremony recognizing Moon-area veterans.

"On the morning of Sept. 15,  I had the very distinct honor of attending a breakfast and ceremony recognizing Southwestern Pennsylvania Veterans of World War II, Korea and Vietnam.  The ceremony was held at the Bethel Park Community Center. The community center was packed with veterans and their families as Congressman Tim Murphy lead in the Pledge of Allegiance. Ms. Sonia Stopperich, a North Strabane Township Supervisor, followed with an exceptional rendition of the National Anthem. Sean Parnell, author of the book Outlaw Platoon gave a very stirring talk about bravery in the face of danger veterans have displayed during wartime.  Many, some now feeble and stooped with age, humbly and appreciatively accepted their long over-due …
