Moon Township Man Tapped as Quaker Valley Varsity Baseball Coach

The new coach has experience coaching baseball, basketball and golf.

A new coach will lead the Quakers when the baseball season starts this spring. Quaker Valley School District tapped Todd Goble, of Moon Township, to head its varsity baseball program. Goble has served as the head varsity coach for Northgate High School since 2001. “Coach Goble’s experience as a successful head coach made him the ideal candidate to move our program forward,” Mike Mastroianni, director of athletics and student activities, said in a news release. “Our student athletes will benefit greatly from his 17 years of coaching experience from two high schools.” Goble has met with members of the baseball team and will be meeting with booster parents in the near future. Quaker Valley Relay For Life Draws Support from the Community

The eighth annual walk raises funds for cancer research to help find a cure.

Quaker Valley residents gathered Saturday for the eighth annual Relay For Life to honor those who have passed away from cancer and to celebrate those who have beat the disease.  The 22-hour "Carnival for the Cure" event began with an opening ceremony and afterward, teams and individuals began walking the high school track all day. Walkers are scheduled to continue until this morning.  Various food, games, entertainment and prizes were available throughout the day. Survivors soon gathered dressed in purple T-shirts and walked to celebrate their lives with support from the crowd and lots of cheering. OLSH Loses Section Title Game to Quaker Valley

QV varsity girls capture first section title since 1981 with 55-36 victory.

Monday night will go down in Quaker Valley sports history. The girls varsity basketball team beat Our Lady of Sacred Heart 55-36 at home, capturing their first Section 6-AA Championship title since 1981. “I feel amazing,” said junior guard Rachel Smith, between tears. Junior point guard Sierra Perlik, also emotional, agreed with her teammate.  “I feel amazing right now. I don’t know how else to explain it. 1981 is a long time,” Sierra said. Missy Walls couldn’t help but smile after the victory. As a member of the 1981 championship team, she knows just what it feels like to play your heart out and come out on top.
