PennDOT: Daytime Work Planned on Route 65 from Sewickley to Beaver County

The work is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

PennDOT plans daytime work on Thursday and Friday along Route 65 from Sewickley to the Beaver County line. Jim Struzzi, PennDOT spokesman, said because this work is temperature sensitive, it cannot be performed at night.  The work is part of a $5.1 million project to improve Route 65, or Ohio River Boulevard, between Chestnut Street and Beaver County. The work will occur on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5. Crews will be performing signal work to install pavement loop sensors in various locations. Short-term single lane closures will occur as needed between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both days. PennDOT also resumed work Monday night, April 1 in the same area on Route 65. Route 65 Improvements to Continue Next Week

The improvements are part of a $5.1 million project started in 2012.

If you plan to travel along Route 65 next week, you may want to leave some extra time. Work to improve Route 65 between Chestnut Street in Sewickley and the Beaver County line will resume Monday night, April 1. According to PennDOT, one lane will be open in each direction as needed while work is performed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The project is expected to last through late April. The improvements are part of a $5.1 million project that started in 2012. Remaining work includes curb installation, pavement markings, drainage and other minor improvements. The overall 4.5 mile project, set to conclude this spring, involved milling and resurfacing, drainage, guide rail, curbing, signs, signals, structure repairs and other improvements in Emsworth…

Man Charged with Assaulting Trooper after Route 65 Chase, Crash

State police say Gregory Omlor also fought with Pittsburgh Police at Allegheny General Hospital, where he was treated after crashing his car on Ohio River Boulevard.

State police in Moon Township said they charged a Sewickley man with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and other offenses Sunday morning after he led troopers on a high-speed chase and crashed a car on Ohio River Boulevard on Pittsburgh's North Side. Troopers in Moon said Gregory Omlor, 23, fought with and tried to injure Tpr. Andrew Reith and Pittsburgh Police Officers Daniel Stangrecki and Mark Pisano after his arrest early Sunday on Route 65, south of the intersection with Interstate 279. He is awaiting arraignment in Municipal Court in Pittsburgh. Omlor led police on a chase that began at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and ended when he crashed on Route 65, according to a report filed by state police. They did not say what prompted the chase. …

Route 65 Improvements to Begin Monday Night in Nearby Sewickley to Ambridge

Overnight restrictions are planned through early October.

On Monday night, PennDOT crews will begin working in the area to improve drainage and mill and resurface Route 65 in Sewickley. The work is expected to last through early October.  Jim Struzzi, PennDOT spokesman, said the work is planned from Chestnut Street in Sewickley, near the bridge, to Ambridge on Route 65, also known as Ohio River Boulevard. To minimize impacts on motorists, Struzzi said lane closures and single-lane traffic will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday nights through early October.      Traffic is being detoured to the Sewickley Bridge as PennDOT embarks on a $16.6 million repair project to the nearby Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge, which has been closed since March. The bridge is expected to reopen in mid-…

Why would road work be done on a road that is currently serving as a detour for a closed bridge? This road has something in the area if 12,000+ more vehicles travelling on it everyday, due to the Ambridge bridge being closed. I drive this road everyday due to the detour. The former motel near the intersection of Camp Horne Road and Ohio River Boulevard on a four-acre site remains shuttered. The Country Inn was a fixture in the community for about 50 years, serving as a hotel, restaurant and bar, and banquet facility.

Coraopolis Man Attacked in Road Rage Assault

David Colaizzi, 41, of Independence Township, Beaver County, is accused of punching and choking a Coraopolis motorist near the Sewickley Bridge.

Sewickley police say a driver who recently lost his temper on Route 65  assaulted a motorist while the victim's daughter and 2-year-old granddaughter watched.  Police charged David Colaizzi, 41, of Independence Township, Beaver County, with simple assault, disorderly conduct, reckless driving and harassment after the Nov. 25 road rage incident. Police were called shortly after 1 p.m. to the 300 block of Route 65 after Robert Hagen, 56 of Coraopolis, reported that a man in a white pickup assaulted him. Hagen told police he was traveling southbound toward the Sewickley Bridge when the pickup suddenly pulled in front of him and slammed on its breaks between Walnut Street and River Road.
