Robert Morris University held its 88th commencement ceremony on Friday and Saturday.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald offered three pieces of advice to approximately 220 Robert Morris University students receiving their master’s and doctoral degrees Fitzgerald was the keynote speaker at Friday's commencement ceremony in the Sewall Center Arena on the Moon Township campus. On Saturday, May 11, approximately 500 students received bachelor’s degrees at RMU’s undergraduate commencement ceremony, where Bob Rogers, president of Development Dimensions International, was the keynote speaker. Writer urges Moon board to be proactive with Wal-Mart property.
To All The Moon Township Board Of Supervisors, I am writing to you supervisors because it appears that your vision for Moon Township is still in the 1990s, and not in the 21st century. I have written time and time again trying to move you into pro-active action when it comes to the Wal-Mart property. The property is still tied up with PennDOT. If Wal-Mart is denied an HOP and further permits to build, what will you do? You need to be ready to rezone the property into mixed use, and include it within the Overlay District allowing for a better use of the property. Seitel Data Co. Ltd. of Monaca plans to conduct seismic testing in Moon Township—even though there is no Marcellus Shale drilling permitted where the testing is being done. At its meeting last week, the Moon Township Board of Supervisors approved a request by the firm, which is headquartered in Houston, TX, to conduct a seismic survey across state, county, and local roads within a small portion of the township. The locations, terms and conditions will be set forth in an agreement to be prepared by the township solicitor and approved by the township manager. Moon Township has won the 22nd annual Outstanding Citizen Communication Award from the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors for its exceptional efforts to communicate with residents. The award was presented at the association's 91st annual Educational Conference and Trade Show in Hershey in April. The conference attracted attendees from every county in Pennsylvania except Philadelphia, which has no townships. The association presents the award each year as part of its annual Township Citizen Communication Contest to recognize one township for its overall achievement and commitment to citizen communication. Deno Berardi and Calvin Taylor face a variety of charges after incident at America's Best Value Inn on April 12.
Two local men face a number of charges after they tried to retrieve a gun left in a room at the America's Best Value Inn on University Boulevard in Moon. Moon Township police charged Deno Alfred Berardi, 19, of Coraopolis with two counts of persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms; and one count each of criminal conspiracy, delivery of heroin, possession with intent to deliver, escape, possession, possession of paraphernalia and drivers required to be licensed. The West Hills DUI Task Force will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and/or roving DUI patrols during the weekend of May 3 through 5. The task force includes officers from Moon, Robinson and Crescent townships. Officers from Avalon, Bellevue, Carnegie, Coraopolis, Edgeworth, Leetsdale and Sewickley borough; and Findlay, Kennedy, North Fayette, Ohio and Stowe townships will also be taking part in these operations.
