Moon, Robinson Area Under Frost Advisory

Frost is possible Saturday morning.

It's going to a be a chilly start to the Memorial Day weekend. The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for the Moon and Robinson area. The advisory will remain in effect from 3 to 8 a.m. Saturday as temperatures hover around 32 degrees. Be sure to cover your sensitive plants and bring potted plants indoors. Smith, Mustio, Moon Township Partner for Shredding Event

The June 15 event can help residents destroy sensitive documents and prevent identify theft.

State Senator Matt Smith is partnering with state Rep. Mark Mustio and Moon Township to offer a free shredding event for constituents.  The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 15 in the parking lot of the Moon Township Administration Office, 1000 Beaver Grade Rd., Moon Township. “This is a great opportunity for residents to have their sensitive documents safely and securely destroyed free of charge,” Smith said. Residents can bring boxes of unwanted documents that may contain personal information including Social Security, credit card or bank account numbers. Common types of unwanted items that should be shredded may include credit card statements or applications, bank statements, canceled checks, income tax information and …

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for the Moon, Robinson Area

The watch remains in effect until 10 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Southwestern Pennsylvania, including Allegheny County. The watch remains in effect through 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service, which says some storms cound be severe with damaging winds.  The chance of showers and thunderstorms is expected mainly after 5 p.m. and before midnight.  A hazardous weather outlook is also in effect this week, with frosty and potentially freezing conditions possible on Friday and Saturday nights and possibly Sunday.    Here's a look at the forecast: Be sure to upload photos or videos of any severe storm weather or storm damage.

Sobriety Checkpoints and Roving DUI Patrols Set This Weekend

Police in Moon, Robinson, Crescent and other surrounding communities will be out for Memorial Day weekend.

The West Hills DUI Task Force will be conducting enforcement operations over Memorial Day weekend. These operations will be in the form of sobriety checkpoints and/or roving DUI patrols between May 24 and 26.  Taking part in the operations are officers from Moon, Robinson and Crescent townships. Also part of the effort are officers from Avalon, Bellevue, Carnegie, Coraopolis, Edgeworth, Leetsdale and Sewickley boroughs; and Findlay, Kennedy, North Fayette, Ohio and Stowe townships. Primary Election 2013: Polls Open at 7 AM, Close at 8 PM

Republicans and Democrats head to the polls today (May 21) to decide which candidates will represent their respective parties in the fall general election. Moon Township Police Investigate Burglary at Montour Road Business

Three suspects are seen on tape as alarm sounds.

Moon Township Police Special Investigations Unit is processing forensic evidence located at the scene of a burglary last week at the H. Snyder Steel Corp. at 100 Montour Rd. According to a news release issued by police Chief Leo McCarthy, at 12:17 a.m. May 9, shock sensors tripped an alarm at the company. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the main gates locked and secured. The owner arrived and unlocked the gate for police. The business is located adjacent to the Montour Trail. An in-house video showed three young white males with backpacks at the scene. One attempted to disable a security camera, while another tried to pry open a window. The chief reported the sound of the alarm caused them to flee. Moon police called the …
