Moon Employee Sues Municipal Authority, Claims 'Religious Discrimination'

A former Moon municipal worker has claimed he was removed from his job because of his religious beliefs.

A Moon Township municipal employee has filed a federal lawsuit claiming workplace religious discrimination lead to his suspension from work.  In the suit filed Tuesday, Moon resident Reagan Madden alleges the Moon Township Municipal Authority penalized him and removed him from his position due to a conflict over his religious beliefs and the church he attended.  Madden began working for the township on a temporary basis in 2002. He was hired as a full-time employee in 2004, according to the filing.  Madden was hospitalized following a heart attack in 2010. The former utility worker claims after his return to work, he was ordered by the authority to perform manual labor, including heavy lifting, against his doctor's orders. He said …

William Peake's termination letter cited "lack of solid job knowledge and basic police skills." His lawsuit alleges his firing was due to racial discrimination.

A Sewickley man has filed a federal lawsuit against the state of Pennsylvania alleging that he was fired from his job as a state police trooper because of racial discrimination. William C. Peake, 29, of Walnut Street, also alleges in the civil suit filed in U.S. District Court on Dec. 4, that he was falsely accused of using “Ebonics” in his incident reports. According to the lawsuit, Peake graduated from the police academy in May 2009, and was one of four African-American graduates in the class of 75.  Peake began an 18-month probationary period and was assigned to the Uniontown barracks, which is headquartered in Washington, PA, according to the suit. Jury Trial Requested in Lawsuit Against Moon Area School District

Update in bullying lawsuit filed by a local family.

Attorneys for the Moon Area School District filed a notice of appearance earlier this month in a lawsuit from a local family who allege the district failed to stop their daughter from being bullied.  The Marshall, Dennehy, Warner, Coleman and Goggin law firm will represent the district in the suit, which was filed on Nov. 26. in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh. Attorney Teresa O. Sirianni, an associate at the firm, will handle the case. The firm filed its intent to represent the district in court on Jan. 4.   The suit, which was filed by Thomas N. and Beth N. on behalf of their daughter, claims the district ignored severe bullying and harassment during the 2009-2010 school year. Hi...Jenna I think perhaps I didn't phrase my original question clearly. My question is, when was the firm of Marshall, Dennehy, Warner, Coleman and Goggin, hired by Moon Area School district to represent the district? The board would have had to "vote" on hiring this firm, during a public meeting, because hiring the firm requires the expenditure of tax dollars. Thank you.   more ›
