Former Kennedy Cop Receives Probation on Fraud Charge

A former Kennedy Police officer and Robinson Township man pleaded guilty to the charge earlier this year.

A former Kennedy Township police officer has been sentenced to two years probation for falsely reporting his Harley Davidson motorcycle stolen from his home.  Frank Caliguiri, 42, of Robinson, was also ordered to pay $14,925 in restitution and serve four months home confinement for his conviction of mail fraud, according to a court statement.  Caliguiri pleaded guilty to the charge in July.  Authorities said Caligiuri in 2009, while employed as a police officer for Kennedy Township, fraudulently reported to GEICO Insurance that his Harley Davidson motorcycle had been stolen and collected insurance proceeds from the alleged theft.  Caligiuri then sold the vehicle in a sale arranged and surveillenced by federal law enforcement agents, who …

It Really Does Take a Village, People!

Columnist Gab Bonesso evokes an African proverb to explain a recent encounter with some local teens.

“It takes a village to raise a child.” - African Proverb   Last week I was driving in Robinson Township during rush hour traffic. Normally rush hour is not too bad in the suburbs. Our worst times for traffic usually correspond to the school bus schedule, but this was later in the day. I was trying to make a left onto Silver Lane and it was impossible. Traffic was backed up through the Clever Road/Silver Lane intersection. It was raining pretty hard and I couldn’t see any reason for the abnormally large traffic volume. At first I thought it was due to the road work that’s been occurring on Clever Road towards Kennedy Township. I figured people were getting sick of waiting at that temporary light they have constructed and were using Silver …
