Open Secrets has published a list of recipients of National Rifle Association campaign contributions that also includes outgoing U.S. Reps. Mark Critz of Johnstown and Jason Altmire of McCandless, both Democrats.
U.S. Reps Tom Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair), Mark Critz (D-Johnstown), Jason Altmire (D-McCandless) and Mike Kelly (R-Butler) of Pennsylvania accepted thousands in 2012 campaign contributions from the National Rifle Association, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The NRA doled out more than $750,000 in campaign contributions in 2012, according to the center, a research organization that tracks money in politics and how it affects elections and policies and shares the information on OpenSecrets.org. The center obtained its data from the Federal Election Commission. Construction will soon be under way on a University Boulevard military commissary, marking the end of a six-year battle to bring the facility to Moon.
Sen. Bob Casey, D-Scranton, said it was a testament to perseverance. Members of Pennsylvania's Congressional delegation and military officials from across the region earlier today attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the long-awaited Moon Township military commissary. The 43,000 square-foot facility, set to open in the fall of 2013, will house a grocery story for more than 170,000 military members and their families in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. The regional hub will be located at the corner of University Boulevard and the Interstate 376 Business Route in Moon and will more than double the size of Oakdale's Charles E. Kelly Commissary, which is slated to close. The effort to bring the new commissary to Moon has been in…

Incumbent Rep. Mark Critz has won the Democratic nomination in a close primary that pitted him against incumbent Rep. Jason Altmire for the new 12th Legislative District, according to unofficial results. Altmire, 44, of McCandless, whose 4th District includes Sewickley, and Critz, 50, of Johnstown, Cambria County, were locked in a tight race to the finish for the chance to represent much of Western Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives. As of 10:50 p.m., Critz had received 29,643 votes to 25,206 cast for Altmire by voters in the sprawling district. Sewickley is currently in the 4th legislative district represented by Democrat Rep. Jason Altmire.
As a result of newly drawn district lines, two incumbent Democrats from Western Pennsylvania will face each other in the upcoming primary election for the chance to run for one congressional seat in the fall. Rep. Jason Altmire, 44, of McCandless and Rep. Mark Critz, 50, of Johnstown, Cambria County, both seek to represent the new 12th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Population losses in Pennsylvania have resulted in the loss of one of the state's 19 existing congressional districts. The reconfigured map of 18 new districts will merge territories once represented by Altmire and Critz into one sprawling district in 2013. That means one of the two incumbent congressmen will be forced out of office as a result of the primary …

Industry experts answer questions about Marcellus Shale drilling, water-quality issues and taxing the industry.
An educational forum on drilling for Marcellus Shale in Western Pennsylvania barely got under way Tuesday before a sunglasses-wearing protester disrupted the gathering. The event, hosted by Rep. Jason Altmire, D-McCandless, at the Community College of Allegheny County’s North campus in McCandless, featured a panel of experts from the drilling industry. Altmire attempted to calm the protester, but college security officers finally led the man away as he shouted, “Why are you shipping our gas to China?” The unidentified man's question was the first of other tough inquiries posed by attendees at the forum. The panel's members included representatives from oil companies, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of …
