Wood Burner Ignites Blaze on Cherrington Lane
Firefighters from across the region respond to Moon Township basement fire.
Embers from a basement wood burner ignited a fire Saturday in a Cherrington Lane home, said Moon Fire Chief John Scott. Scott said no one was injured in the blaze, which was contained to the basement of the home at 10 Cherrington Lane. The home's residents were away when the fire began shortly after 4 p.m., he said. The property is owned by Kurt and Jacquelyn Gottschalk, according to Allegheny County property records. A neighbor who was watching the family's pets alerted authorities to the blaze. Kurt Gottschalk later praised the quick response of firefighters, saying he was grateful for their efforts on behalf of his family and dogs.
