Two men from Moon Township are charged in a burglary that took place at a Juniper Drive residence on Aug. 22, 2011. Anthony James Terry, 21, and Alexander Rashad Turner, 23, both of Moon are charged with criminal trespass, burglary, criminal conspiracy and theft by unlawful taking. Additionally, Terry is charged with receiving stolen property. A plasma TV, HDMI cable, laptop computer, smartphone, Tracphone, women's clothing and prescription medication were stolen from the home, according to a police report. Physical evidence from the burglary was sent to the Northern Regional Police AFIS Crime Lab for analysis. Police in Moon, Robinson, Crescent and other surrounding communities will be out for Memorial Day weekend.
The West Hills DUI Task Force will be conducting enforcement operations over Memorial Day weekend. These operations will be in the form of sobriety checkpoints and/or roving DUI patrols between May 24 and 26. Taking part in the operations are officers from Moon, Robinson and Crescent townships. Also part of the effort are officers from Avalon, Bellevue, Carnegie, Coraopolis, Edgeworth, Leetsdale and Sewickley boroughs; and Findlay, Kennedy, North Fayette, Ohio and Stowe townships. The West Hills DUI Task Force officers made seven arrests for driving under the influence while conducting a DUI roving patrol on May 4. The operation ran from 11 p.m. until 4 a.m. During that time, officers also stopped 58 cars, and issued 16 citations and 45 warnings. Officers from Robinson, Moon, Findlay, North Fayette and Ohio townships; and Bellevue and Coraopolis boroughs took part in the operation. Last month, the task force made eight arrests on a variety of charges—and issued 15 citations and 43 warnings—while conducting a DUI roving patrol on April 12-13. Police also handle child endangerment case.
Shannon Marie Rudy, 30, of Moon Township has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance—and endangering the welfare of children—after an incident on April 18. Moon Township police received a report of a woman driver driving erratically with two children in the backseat. Police found Rudy at her home. According to a police report, officers found her with droopy eyes, pin-point pupils and appearing lethargic with slurred speech. Rudy admitted to taking a prescribed medication for anxiety. Police asked her to come with them to the station for testing by a drug recognition specialist. When she refused the test, she was placed under arrest. A fight and hit-and-run accident among other items handled by police last week.
Moon Township police filed charges of driving under the influence against several people last week. In other police news: Assault charges Eric D. Barbee, 30 of Moon Township faces charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after he was involved in a fight in the McDonald's parking lot. After getting a call about the fight, police found Barbee walking up Carnot Road. According to a police report, he was winded, sweaty and agitated. Barbee told police he argued with a man about $40 Barbee had loaned to the man's girlfriend. However, the man denied that Barbee was owed any money. Hit-and-run accident Scott Alan Wilfong, 40, of Baden faces a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. on June 4 in district court on charges of accidents …

Another woman faces charges for DUI in this week's police blotter.
Three women face retail theft charges after separate incidents at stores in Robinson Township. Linda D. Mitchell, 49, of McKees Rocks faces charges of criminal trespass and retail theft. She is accused of stealing clothing and a coffee maker from Kohl's Department Store on Steubenville Pike. According to a Robinson Township police report, a Kohl's loss prevention officer observed Mitchell placing items inside her purse and walking out of the store without paying for them on April 13. She fled the store toward Sheetz, where she was apprehended. Mitchell faces the trespassing charge because she had been banned from all Kohl's stores after signing a trespass agreement with the Kohl's at Century III Mall. No preliminary hearing date has been …
Many people favor efforts by the West Hills DUI Task Force to combat intoxicated drivers, but others worry that it's more a "police state" tactic.
Throughout Pennsylvania—and locally—drinking and driving is one of the top safety issues for police. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Crash Facts and Statistics booklet, there were 11,805 alcohol-related crashes in the state in 2011, down from 12,426 alcohol-related crashes in 2010. Alcohol-related deaths decreased from 459 to 428 in that same period. In 2011, alcohol-related deaths were 33 percent of the total traffic deaths in Pennsylvania, a nearly steady rate over the last several years. Throughout the state, local police widely use sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols to help take intoxicated drivers off the road. Moon Township Police said thieves broke into cars parked along the Montour Trail this month.
Moon Police said vandals smashed the windows of two vehicles parked along the Montour Trail. Motorists returned from the trail to find their windows broken and items missing. A man told police that on March 18 he returned to his car, parked near the Groveton Bridge, to find his car's window broken and his wallet and other items stolen. A woman, whose vehicle was parked along Route 51, reported that day that her driver's side window had been smashed, and her debit card and several gift cards were missing. Moon Township Police responded to the following recent incidents and made the following arrests.
