Montour Dunks Chartiers Valley, 47-40

The Colts held the lead at the half but the tide turned in the Spartans' favor with 2:52 left in the game.

The Chartiers Valley Colts boys’ basketball team fell after the Montour Spartans pulled ahead 47-40 in the final minutes of the WPIAL AAA championship game at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Duquesne Friday night. The game got under way after a short delay and the Colts scored two points within first ten seconds, according to the district’s official Twitter feed at @CVSDcolts. At the end of the first quarter, the Colts were up 18-11. Spencer Casson's 14 points took Chartiers Valley to 29-20 halftime lead over Montour, according to The Almanac's @SHAlmanacSports Twitter feed.  The Colts still held the lead at the end of the third quarter, as the lead was cut to a single point with the Colts 33, Montour 32. Moon Beats Chartiers Valley in WPIAL Opener

The Chartiers Valley Colts lost to the Moon Tigers 35-16 in the high school football WPIAL opener.

Moon Area High School beat Chartiers Valley 35-16 Friday night to start the 2012 WPIAL football season, according to WPXI-TV. The Colts traveled to Moon for the season opener in the new Parkway Center Conference. Chartiers Valley has its home opener against Hopewell next week on Sept. 7. The Moon Tigers travel to Blackhack next week for their game on Sept. 7.
