Police: Vandals Smash Car Windows Along Montour Trail

Moon Township Police said thieves broke into cars parked along the Montour Trail this month.

Moon Police said vandals smashed the windows of two vehicles parked along the Montour Trail.  Motorists returned from the trail to find their windows broken and items missing.  A man told police that on March 18 he returned to his car, parked near the Groveton Bridge, to find his car's window broken and his wallet and other items stolen. A woman, whose vehicle was parked along Route 51, reported that day that her driver's side window had been smashed, and her debit card and several gift cards were missing.  Moon Township Police responded to the following recent incidents and made the following arrests. Former Moon State Trooper Pleads No Contest in Fatal DUI Crash

Jeffrey DAlessandro of Canonsburg entered the plea Monday afternoon.

A former Pennsylvania State Trooper who worked from the Moon Township Troop B barracks has pleaded no contest to homicide by motor vehicle while driving under the influence and driving under the influence. Jeffrey Dalessandro, 35, was originally charged Feb. 8, 2012 by state police in Corry, PA, with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, two counts of DUI, involuntary manslaughter and other offenses following a crash that killed an Edinboro man. GoErie.com reported that police said Dalessandro was off duty and driving impaired "when his eastbound truck crossed the center line on Route 6 in Union Township at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday and struck a westbound Chevrolet Blazer driven by 21-year-old Daryl L. One Injured in University Boulevard Crash

Police in Moon Township respond to a two-vehicle crash.

  One person was taken to Sewickley Valley Hospital following a two-vehicle crash off University Boulevard.  Moon Police Officer David Stitch said two vehicles sustained front-end damage following a collision just before 5 p.m. Wednesay at the intersection of Brodhead Road and University Boulevard. One motorist was transported to the hospital after complaining of leg pain, Stitch said.

Driver Killed in Robinson Crash May Have Had 'Medical Episode'

A Mercer County man was killed last week while driving on Steubenville Pike.

Robinson Police say a man killed days ago in a one-vehicle crash on Steubenville Pike may have had a medical emergency while driving.  Gregory Unrue, 59, of Fredonia, Mercer County, was killed at 4 a.m. Dec. 7 in front of TJ's Deli Mart at 5942 Steubenville Pike. Unrue's vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Robinson Police Chief Dale Vietmeier said no one else was present in the vehicle or injured at the time of the crash.  Vietmeier said Unrue may have had a "medical episode" while behind the wheel. No cause of the crash has been determined.

Mercer County Man Killed in Robinson Township Crash

An autopsy is scheduled for later today, according to the county medical examiner's office.

One man is dead after an early morning car crash near the intersection of Steubenville Pike and Tidball Lane in Robinson Township.  59-year-old Gregory Unrue, of Fredonia, Mercer County, was killed in the crash, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office.  The crash occured just before 4 a.m. in front of TJ's Deli Mart at 5942 Steubenville Pike. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed later today.  Robinson Township Police could not be reached for comment. Further details were not immediately available.

Moon Police: Two Injured in Brodhead Road Crash

Police detour traffic around the scene of an evening crash.

Moon Township Police said a motorist suffered a broken arm and leg after a two-car collision today on Brodhead Road.  Officer Justin Blair said two people were taken to area hospitals following the crash, which occurred just before 6 p.m. near the West Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center and Stardust Lounge on the road.  Blair said a vehicle traveling in the right lane from the direction of University Boulevard veered over the traffic line, striking an oncoming vehicle.  The driver of one of the vehicles involved suffered a fractured arm and leg in the crash. The vehicle's passenger suffered a possible fractured ankle and difficulty breathing, Blair said.  Moon Township firefighters assisted in removing passengers from one of the …

Teen Driver With Recent Permit Crashes into Robinson Bank; No One Hurt

The First National Bank branch on Steubenville Pike remains closed after the accident, but the drive-through window is open.

A Robinson Township teen who obtained her driver's permit two weeks ago crashed the car she was driving into the side of a bank on Steubenville Pike while trying to park outside Monday afternoon, Robinson Township Police said. Robinson Patrolman Noel Pilewski said no one was hurt when the car crashed through a window and wall into an office area of the First National Bank branch at 6298 Steubenville Pike. The bank remains closed, but employees said the drive-through window remains open for customers. The driver of the car, Elizabeth Pistritto, 18, of Robinson, said she obtained her driver's permit two weeks ago and was accompanied Monday by an adult, as required. Parkway West Re-Opens Following Morning Crash

A tractor-trailer barreled through the concrete median on I-376 near Carnegie before crashing into cars and causing major traffic back-ups in both directions Friday morning.

Crews have reopened all lanes of the Parkway West four hours after a major crash closed the interstate in both directions near the Carnegie exit Friday morning. A tractor-trailer apparently barreled through the concrete median, crashing into two cars and causing major traffic back-ups in both directions,WPXI-TV reported. The crash happened shortly before 6 a.m. during the morning rush hour commute. It’s not known if anyone was injured in the crash. PennDOT workers could be seen working most of the morning trying to repair the concrete median. All lanes were reopened shortly before 10 a.m.   ---- Like Robinson-Moon Patch on Facebook!

Update: Car Rolls Over in University Boulevard Crash

One driver was said to be inside a van that rolled on its side after a University Boulevard crash.

Update: A van rolled onto its side after a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of University Boulevard and Tiger Trail.  Moon Officer Shener Ulke said two passengers in a blue Toyota Rav4 were taken to Sewickley Valley Hospital to be treated for minor injuries after a truck rear-ended it in front of Bob Evans on University Boulevard.  The crash occurred just after 8 a.m. Friday. Both vehicles were traveling southbound on University Boulevard.  The truck driver, a Comcast subcontractor, has been charged with careless driving. His name was not immediately available.  Early reports said one driver was possibly trapped in the van at the time of the collision, though Ulke said both passengers were able to exit the van.
