The Moon native's latest record is nominated for an Independent Music Award.
Brooke Annibale said the good news came in the form of an email. "I didn't really know what shot I had," Annibale said of her recent Independent Music Award nomination. "I figured a lot of people would be submitting [entries] so I didn't really know if I had a chance." The Independent Music Awards, which celebrates unsigned recording artists from around the globe, nominated the Moon native's 2011 full-length release A Silence Worth Breaking this month for best adult contemporary album of the year. Winners will be announced next month. The 24-year-old said she learned of the nomination one evening while checking her email. "Yeah, just checking my email," Annibale said. Singer-songwriter Brooke Annibale has been nominated for best adult contemporary album.
Moon native Brooke Annibale is nominated for a 2012 Independent Music Award. The singer-songwriter and Moon Area School District alum's latest release Silence Worth Breaking is up for the best adult contempory record of the year category. Annibale, who performed at Moon Park at the township's 2011 July 4 festival, released the 10-track album last March. She performed last night at Backstage Bar in Pittsburgh's Strip District. More than 300 self-released and independent-label music artists have been nominated for this year's Independent Music Awards. Judges for the honor include Tom Waits, Ozzy Osbourne and Keith Richards. Sewickley woman creates a concert -- now in its eighth year -- to help a friend.
You have to have some pretty understanding neighbors if you are going to have a backyard concert every year. Especially if you invite hundreds of guests. Fortunately for Cindy Yates, she does. Yates, of Sewickley, will be the host of her eighth annual Cindystock on July 30. The event serves as a fundraiser for cancer research and support, funds administered through her nonprofit organization, Yates Fund for Cancer Hope. She organized her first concert in 2004 when Yates’ husband, Ted, lost his best friend, Mike Fatigante, 51, to pancreatic cancer. Nearly 12,000 people crowded into Moon Park Monday evening for the township's annual Fourth of July Celebration. Festival-goers took in performances from country music artist Chuck Wicks and Moon natives Brooke Annibale and Sarah Marince. More families poured into the park and lined Ewing Road nearby to catch the Zambelli Fireworks display at nightfall. Dana Kasler, director of Moon's Parks and Recreation department, said the event ran smoothly. "It was a great turn out," Kasler said. "It just seems like everyone is really excited [tonight]."

The annual event today will feature Zambelli Fireworks and performer Chuck Wicks.
The township's annual July 4 celebration today at Moon Park will feature Zambelli Fireworks and a country music line-up. The event, which kicks off at 4 p.m., is one of the longest-running Fourth of July celebrations in Western Pennsylvania, according to Moon's Parks and Recreation department, which organizes the event. In addition to headlining performers Chuck Wicks and Moon native Sarah Marince, the event will feature local vendors and a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Ewing Road will close from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. today from Beaver Grade to Coraopolis Heights roads to accommodate the event. The Allegheny County Airport Authority is also temporarily re-opening the Interstate 376 East on-ramp to Ewing Road today.
