Winter Weather Advisory: Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain in Forecast

National Weather Service issued advisory Tuesday.

Just when you thought all the snow had melted, along comes another winter weather advisory. The National Weather Service  in Moon Township said the advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) until 10 a.m. Wednesday for Allegheny, Butler, Beaver and surrounding areas. From one to two inches of snow is forecast with a light glaze of ice possible from freezing rain, according to the weather service website. Interesting! It was a year ago, nearly to the day, that we had a serious winter snowfall. It was the day that several of us took a bus to the Detroit Auto Show. We waited in a Walmart parking lot for several hours as the snow fell, while we sat in our cars periodically warming up our engines to defrost the windows. National Weather Service Issues Flood Advisory for Ohio River

The flood advisory is in addition to a flood watch in effect through Tuesday evening. A high wind warning for the region has been cancelled.

Commuters who use the Monongahela River Parking Wharf in Downtown Pittsburgh will need to be thinking about alternative plans. The National Weather Service in Moon Township has issued a flood advisory lasting from Tuesday evening through Thursday afternoon for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh. Rising waters are expected to impact the river in Allegheny County starting this evening, eventually flooding the 10th Street Bypass and Wharf, the weather service said.   Blame it on the widespread heavy rains expected to blanket the region over the next 36 hours, with potential rainfall amounts ranging from 2.5 inches to 4.5 inches. Significant runoff is expected to cause the Monangahela River to rise as a result, according to the weather service.  The…

Robinson-Moon Weather: Hurricane Sandy Brings Rain, High Winds

A flood watch is in effect through Tuesday evening and a high wind warning from noon today to noon Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Moon Township.

The National Weather Service in Moon Township has issued a flood watch and high wind warning for Western Pennsylvania, including Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties, as post Tropical Storm Sandy brings high winds and rain across the vicinity. The wind warning cautions residents to be prepared for winds of 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. Wind gusts are likely to be strongest Monday night into Tuesday morning before decreasing through the day Tuesday. That warning also covers eastern Ohio, northern West Virginia and western Maryland. The flood watch is in effect through Tuesday night for all of Western Pennsylvania as well as east-central Ohio, West Virginia and western Maryland.
