Moon Area School Board voted Monday to decrease the real estate tax rate from 21.3 to 17.99 mills and adopt a $63.67 million budget for the 2013-14 school year. The new tax rate means that the property tax bill for a $155,000 home—the median value in the school district—will be $2,790, the (Beaver County) timesonline reports. According to the website, the 7,399 Moon and Crescent township property owners who filed Act 1 homestead exemption forms will have their tax bills reduced by $129.29 because of the distribution of state gambling revenues. Even with the lower millage rate, the school district will receive nearly the same level of revenue it did this year due to the changes in the Allegheny County property reassessments. Board member …

Eligible students received a $6,000 scholarship each of their four years at RMU. The S-STEM Scholars also participated in a two-week math and science boot camp before …
