Obituaries: Former Owner of Bon Air Golf Course Remembered

Harold D. Heinlein, Sr. Harold D. Heinlein, Sr., age 93, of Moon Township, died unexpectedly May 27 at Heritage Valley Sewickley. He was born April 28, 1919 in Imperial and was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Margaret “Mush” Mushalansky Heinlein. He was the loving father of Harold Donald Heinlein, Jr., Ellen Heinlein Bolton and James Michael Heinlein. He and Herb Heinlein were the proud owners of the Bon Air golf course from 1932 until 2005. The course was purchased by the township and is now known as the Moon Golf Club.  Visitation was conducted earlier this month. Entombment is at Coraopolis Cemetery. Irene Ditz Schneider Irene Ditz Schneider, 84, of Moon Township and formerly Ambridge, died on May 18. Schneider was born in Sewickley on March 14, 1928 and is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gerald B. Schnieder and two children Lori Ward and Eric Schneider, as well as grandchildren Stefanie and Brandon Ward. She was a member of the Moon Garden Club and St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. No public visitation will be conducted; arrangements are being made through Huntsman Funeral Home. Friends are invited to a memorial service at 10 a.m. May 25 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions can be made to Forbes Hospice in Aliquippa. Marie E. …

Moon Obituaries: Life-long Moon Resident Remembered

Edith Malloy Eckelberry, 81, a life-long Moon Township resident, died May 15 at the Masonic Village in Sewickley. She was born in Rochester on April 17, 1931 and was the wife of the late James C. Eckelberry for 59 years.  She was the mother of Kevin Eckelberry and the late Clifford Eckelberry and the grandmother of Ryan and Mary Eckelberry and great-grandmother of Hunter and Robin. Eckelberry was a member of the Coraopolis United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 402 Ladies Auxiliary. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Copeland’s Funeral Home in Moon Township. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Coraopolis Cemetery.

Thomas W. Bloomer  Thomas W. Bloomer, 68, of Moon Township, died May 4. He was born Aug. 21, 1944 in Sewickley. He was the husband of 42 years to Sarah Black Bloomer and the father of Matthew Bloomer, Jennifer Parish and Joseph Bloomer. He is also survived by his brother Kevin Bloomer and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Bloomer was a graduate of Duquesne University and was a teacher in the West Allegheny School District for more than 30 years, where he was also an assistant principal and middle school football coach. In his retirement, he tutored at the Mooncrest Community Center and was a member of the St. Margaret Mary Church. Jeremy Andrew Brinkley Jeremy Andrew Brinkley, 25, of Moon, died April 26. He was born on March 4, 1987 and is survived by parents Stuart Brinkley and Barbara Geisler. Jeremy was a 2005 graduate of Moon Area High School, where he played soccer and hockey. He was a member of St. Philip’s Church. In addition to his parents, he is survived by stepmother Laura Brinkley, fiancé Emma Susick, brother Ian Brinkley, sister Elizabeth Brinkley, stepbrother Patrick Metzler, and maternal grandmother Ruth Geisler. Ansel “Rocky” Packer Ansel Packer, 62, of Moon Township and formerly Kansas, died April 23 in a Beaver County single-vehicle crash on Interstate 376 East.  Born July 30 1949 in Kansas, he served for more than 30 years as a special agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Packer began his career in the FBI while it was under the leadership of J. Edgar Hoover and for three years his was assigned exclusively to Capitol Hill as a liaison agent, dealing with congressmen, senators and Supreme Court justices. Packer was assigned to the Pittsburgh FBI bureau in 1984, where he worked in international terrorism prevention and served as the division’s drug demand reduction coordinator. Mildred Minton Hartman Mildred Minton Hartman, 103, of Independence Township and formerly Moon, died April 15 at West Hills Health and Rehabilitation. She was born Sept. 8, 1908 in Red Stone Township  and was preceded in death by her late husbands William Minton and Raymond Hartman. She was he mother to William Minton, Robert Minton, Peggy Mauro, David Hartman and the late Delma Bise and the late Ruby Casey. She was the stepmother of the late Velda Tassone and the late Raeann Hartman.  She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. Lewis C. Schneider Lewis C. Schneider, 86, of Coraopolis and Moon Township died April 1 with his family at his side. Born in Coraopolis he was a charter member of St. Margaret Mary Church and a World War II veteran. He was a retired ramp agent for TWA Airlines. He was the husband of the late Mary Jane Aruba Schneider and is survived by daughters Joyce Grater and Lorraine Casciato and four grandchildren. Services were yesterday. RMU Student Remembered as Loyal Friend, Inspiration

RMU senior Marco Giovengo died March 16 in Lexington Hall on Robert Morris University's campus.

Friends and university officials remember Robert Morris University student Marco Giovengo as a loyal friend who blossomed during his time as a student at the Moon-based university. Giovengo, 22, of McCandless, died the evening of March 16 when his heart stopped beating in his Lexington Hall dorm room on campus, according to a story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  Giovengo, who was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy, was scheduled to graduate in May. The newspaper reports that he was goodwill ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Giovengo was a drummer in the university's marching band and was selected for the university's 2011 homecoming court. The senior sports management major was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa …

She was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Edward A. Meskow, in 1987. She is the mother of Melanie Taylor and Christopher Meskow and a grandmother of one. Meskow enjoyed shopping and visiting flea markets. There will be no visitation. Arrangements were through Copeland Funeral Home in Moon Township.
