2011 Election: Danny L. Barefoot

Position Sought: School Board

Email: tooferab@verizon.net

Phone: 412-445-8637

Address: Boggs Avenue

Family: Married and I have a daughter who is a junior at Moon Area High School. I Attended Johnstown High School.

Education, Occupation, Related Experience: 51-years-old. Enlisted in the United States Army in 1977. Served with the 1st Infantry Division Fort Riley Kansas and the 82nd Airborne Division Fort Bragg, N.C. Lifetime member of the 82nd Airborne Association. Worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 27 years.  Worked with difficult juvenile offenders at Eastern State Forensic Unit outside of Philadelphia for 10 years and currently work at the State Corrections Institution at Greene in Waynesburg, Pa. since 1994. I have held the position of Critical Incident Manager Lieutenant for 10 years handling all aspects of Emergency Preparedness.

Primary Reason for running: To support the timely progress and completion of the new Moon Area High School. During the next phases of construction, I feel it is imperative to ensure that there are no unneeded delays and no interruptions to the students that would compromise their positive learning environment. I am committed to preventing any unnecessary financial burden from being placed upon the residents of Moon during this process.

Most important priority if elected: Honesty, integrity and credibility. Working with the other members, listening to the residents.

What sets you apart from the other candidates, if contested? No political experiance. My extensive background in working with at-risk juveniles in a correctional setting has provided me with the knowledge and understanding of the important, influential role that our schools and teachers play in shaping our children's lives. I believe it is our responsibility to provide our children with every possible tool and positive educational atmosphere that, they not only deserve, but that which will promote success in their lives. I look forward to working in unison with the existing school board members and centering my focus on the best interests of our students and residents of Moon.

What's your favorite thing about the school district/community? Everything. When I transferred to this area from the Philadelphia area in 1994 I could have chosen to live anywhere.  The location being close to Pittsburgh, Airport, quality school and the people of Moon Township as an obvious chose.

What is the biggest problem facing the school district/community? The budget
